Blue hour in Dubrovnik, a photo from Dubrovacko-Neretvanska, Coast

Photographer's Note

Yesterday I have returned from my trip to Croatia, Bosnia & Herzegovina and Montenegro. There is so much to see and photograph over there! I didnt have a chance to look through my photos yet. This is one of the few blue hour photos I took.

This photo was taken from a less popular POV: a terrace of the apartment which we rented in Dubrovnik.

The dome in the left belongs to the Assumption Cathedral. It is a Roman Catholic cathedral of Dubrovnik. The tall tower in the centre is of the Dominican Monastery. Smaller tower to the right is the Clock Tower in the Luza Square. The smaller dome in the right marks the baroque St. Blaise Church.

By Jove, you've been travelling! In a few years you will be travelling perhaps as much as Malgo!!

This is a beautiful "blue hour" photograph, taken at just the right time while there is still some light and colour in the sea and sky and yet the warm artificial light is starting to illuminate these lovely buildings.

And what a fascinating collection of rooftops, towers and domes, all perfectly described in your fascinating note.

Gorgeous soft light and colours, perfect exposure, a fine composition and exquisite details and sharpness.

Hello Mariusz,
The towers and domes in the old town are beautifully lit while it isn't yet too dark to have a good look at the red roofs and facades that surround them.
This is a very attractive blue hour picture but I guess that the blue we see here isn't the sky (as usual on such photos) but the Adriatic Sea.

A very fine blue hour photo, with sharp details and a great collection of domes. You exposed this very well, and I think you have adjusted the contrast just right, leaving the blue tones lovely and soft.

Haha, oczywiscie zaczynasz od blue hour :). Wynajeliście sobie apartament z pieknym widokiem. Nie musiałes nawet nigdzie chodzić - wystarczylo wyjść na taras. Ładne wieże i atrakcyjna kopuła. Super kolory i te pierwsze światła. Morze zamiast nieba, niezly pomysł.

A nice zoom over the old town at early night-time, but already with illuminations upon the monuments.
The beautiful town looking so different that what we normally see on daytime photos, and yet magnificent.

Beautiful blue hour photo from the city of Dubrovnik. The warmly illuminated towers and domes look beautiful and are captured with great sharpness. They stand out beautifully against the dark blue background.

Hello Mariusz,
I vaguely remember these towers from my own visit almost 8 years ago, but I didn't see them from this angle and not at this time of the day. I like the lights shining in the relative darkness and the view of the sea in the background. It seems you may have made a similar journey that I did to the same three countries in 2008.

Une trčs belle composition ŕ l'heure bleue.J'aime l'illumination trčs réussie du clocher , devrais-je dire des clochers trčs nombreux ŕ cet endroit. La mer est le parfait arričre plan.

Maybe a less popular POV, but still a good one, especially when you want to take a blue scene. The contrast between light and dark is very attractive and the technical quality of the photo also excellent. I wish I had that view.

This is such a good blue hour shot!
You have used the attractive benefits of the artificial lights on the outstanding features, whilst there is still some natural light remaining to give a pleasing impression of the setting.
I love how you have achieved the impression of a warm glow!

I'm sorry you couldn't make the TE meeting, too. You would have enjoyed it. Though the day started grey and was like that when we were at the castle, by midday, the sun emerged and it was much better for photography.
We had the advantage of John knowing his way around the city so we did,t get lost at all!

This is a beauty. I love rooftop shots and you have succeeded in taking a very beautiful and characteristic photo in the most ideal of lighting situations. And you get double points from me as I know that with a young child, getting a photo around this time of evening is virtually impossible. So well done!

Not the typical Dubnovnik postcard..eh?
Nice high POV from where the lit up bell towers and the dome contrast well with the semi-darkness. Awesome exposure
Postcard-istically speaking, this picture could be from any where in Europe...it does not have the Dubrovnik stamp on it
