Famous Czechs
There are many ways to get to know a city.
We can find the past in the older buildings and the statues of important figures from the past.
We can find the modern city in the inhabitants how they live and what they look like and also in the modern architecture.
But there are also other less formal expressions that teach us more about the city and the country.
I found these three portraits of famous Czechs during our walk through Prague.
■ Picture 1: Václav Havel. .► https://i1.trekearth.com/photos/15099/te900-1.jpg ◄
Václav Havel (Prague, October 5, 1936 - Hrádeček, December 18, 2011)
Czech writer, dissident and politician.
Havel started his career as a playwright. After the Prague Spring in 1968, he was banned from publication and became more and more active in the resistance against the Czechoslovak regime.
During the Velvet Revolution in 1989, Havel played an important role in the Civic Forum. On December 29, he was elected by parliament as president of Czechoslovakia. On July 5, 1990, he was elected president by parliament in free elections. In 1992, Czechoslovakia was split into the Czech Republic and Slovakia against Havel's wishes. In February 1993, Havel was elected president of the Czech Republic for five years. His re-election for a second five-year term followed in 1998. When the second term expired in 2003, a third term was constitutionally impossible.
■ Picture 2: Franz Kafka .► https://i1.trekearth.com/photos/15099/te900-2.jpg ◄
Franz Kafka
Franz Kafka (Prague, July 3, 1883 - Kierling, June 3, 1924) was a German-language writer who is considered one of the most important authors of the twentieth century.
Kafka is best known as the writer of the novels The Process and The End, as well as the novella The Transformation. His work seems to be characterized by a nightmarish, ominous atmosphere (known as Kafkaesque) in which bureaucracy and impersonal society are increasingly taking hold of the individual.
■ Picture 3. Millada Horáková ► https://i1.trekearth.com/photos/15099/te900-3.jpg ◄
Millada Horáková
Milada Horáková (Prague, December 25, 1901 - there, June 27, 1950) was a Czech Social Democratic politician, doctor of law, champion of women's rights, resistance fighter during the Second World War and a concentration camp survivor.
Her criticism of the Czechoslovak communist regime has made her a target of the secret police. She was sentenced to death on trumped-up charges. She is the only woman executed by the communist regime for her political beliefs.
Horáková has become a symbol of resistance to communism.

Hello Rob,
I remeber Václav Havel, a remarkable statesman after the Commu. era. As a PM he visited Israel, truely written "his life is a history" for the Czeck's.
As for this picture, someone wrote in Hebrew the blue inscribtion which we get to see only one word meaning in free translation "hurry-up" or "get a move on"... wonder what is the next word folows.
Nice three pic.s on this subject.
Have a nice weekend,
Ike

Hello Rob,
Three good photos, of which the main one has just about everything I look for in a perfect street shot. Good graffiti, some bad graffiti, human participation, matching colours (wall/fence). The bright light enhances the effect of the various details that all seem part of a message from Prague today. The persons in the WS are worthy members of this little trilogy. Above all it's the main photo I would have been proud of taking.
Best wishes,
Gert

Ciao Rob,
I hope you managed to find the animated statues by David Černý in the Kafka Museum, of 2 men peeing into a map of Czechoslovakia! It was quite amusing! It looks like the weather was quite hot as the woman's neck is red with sunburn. Good street art and bg graffiti. Tfs!

Hello Rob, three brief biographies that make interesting reading.
I knew of Havel and Kafka but had never heard of Horakova.
The method of bringing these three people to our attention in quite different ways; what initially looks like graffiti for Havel, a photograph of Kafka advertising the museum and a banner for Horakova.
In the two where the women are passing the pictures, they take no notice of the faces.
Thank you for sharing these alternative views from Prague.
Kind regards, Jean.

Hallo Rob,

John

Hi Rob
Original look at the city of Prague, three well captured details far from usual postcard view and yet a good history lesson. Well in the spirit of learning about the world through photography.
Best wishes

Hallo Rob,
Vele groeten, Paul

Hello Rob,
This is an interesting way of looking into the history of Czechoslovakia.
I had only really heard of Kafka so it was interesting to read about the others and further research them.
Your main post, with different types of graffiti, and a figure, has more of your input, so a good choice.
I just couldnt help imagining someone trying to stand on their head, whilst spraying the graffiti on the wall!
My warm regards,
Bev 😊

Hi Rob,always a different theme and always photos that unite him. Today three different ways of celebrating characters belonging to recent Czech history, I honestly did not know Millada Horáková so your notes are very useful, while I already knew the other two. Different ways to remember them in 3 great photos as always. Have a nice Sunday and thanks,Luciano

HI Rob,
You have captured well the woman in a relax mood. The point of view is showing the details of the graffitis. It is clear and sharp. Have a nice day.

Hello Rob.
Three unusual images of characters that have made history, this painting or graffiti in this deteriorated place, is more surprising, although the message is very true, I think it is some outskirts of the city.
Very good photo, good lighting management and sharpness.
Have a good start to the week.
Very best regards.
Luis.

Hello Rob,
You already know that I love street art, so it's a pleasure to see these works of art. I like the grit in this main photo, with a colorful wall, and the woman walking by. Cigarette smoke wafts upward, and some foreign writing adds more color. There's a television, too! :-)
