Photographer's Note
The Deblinsky Chateau (Deblínský zámek in Czech) is located high on the rock above the Dyje river valley near the Znojmo city centre on the place of medieval fortified Znojmo castle. The castle used to guard the borders of the Czech kingdom against Austria, but after the creation of personal union between both countries in the 16th century it lost its purpose, started to deteriorate and in 1710 the emperor Josef I donated the castle to the family of Deblín. They rebuilt the castle in the Baroque style and transformed it into a comfortable residence. At the end of the 18th and in the 19th century the chateau was changed into a military hospital and its rich decoration was fairly simplified. Today the chateau serves as a museum. There is also a breeding station for the birds of prey in the former defence moat of the castle.
