Photographer's Note

Denmark is a country shaped by its waters: its sounds, belts, archipelagos, fjords, bays, inlets and coves. The natural coastline of 7,400 km is the most coherent and largest nature area in Denmark. The varied areas with shallow water protected from waves and usually free from ice-cover during winter are important for large numbers of migratory wintering birds. Besides the richness in biological and geological values the coastal zone has many cultural values as well - like this fjord. It is the Flensburg Fjord, occasionally known as the Flensburg Firth that in the far north of Germany forms part of the border between Germany to the south and Denmark to the north stretching 50 kilometers into the Baltic Sea. Its waters are bordered by areas with an unique history. In 1920 a referendum in North and Central Schleswig resulted in the restoration of North Schleswig to Denmark, and the border between Denmark and Germany has remained undisturbed in the middle of Flensburg Fjord ever since. However, numerous historical monuments along the coast testify to previous battles and periods of unrest and war.

Gut, dass ich das zeitlich noch "erwischt" habe. Mehr Ruhe und Stille kann man wohl kaum in ein Foto fassen. Die nur wenigen "Zutaten" sind wohl platziert und ergeben ein wunderschönes Ganzes. Eine irgendwie geheimnisvolle Stimmung ...

Hello Harriet! I find graphic picture a quiet and idyllic place, really a healthy place for life.

Indeed silence here is the main feature. We can't see where the sea ends and sky begins. Nice pier with seagulls, pleasant sky and its reflection. Very nice composition in beautiful colours.

Hi Harriet,
Very peaceful feeling on this seaside view. Almost still water and horizon almost disappears on slight haze. The boats are well placed filling the empty place. You could have used smaller aperture as it seems that the boats are slightly out of focus compared to foreground.

The particulary light give a... particulary athmospher to this nice seascape. I like the very efficience composition of your image with the vegetation in the FG which give depht and the pier on the left which learn the glance to the sea and the boat. Nice natural colors too.

You have captured a magnificent light of what seems to have been a wonderful Indian summer's day. The composition is excellent with the tufts of grassy shore in the foreground and the jetty cutting through the water towards the boats. The horizon is almost lost in the haze, making the sea and the sky melt together.

The seagulls appear to be enjoying their perch, as the fishing boat emerges from the fog. Your visit to Denmark certainly produced a cache of gorgeous photos, and your research for the notes is a treat for us all. Is the Island of Hven, is it in the vicinity. It is well know for the observatory where the Danish nobleman Tycho Brahe collected data for four decades, and which the German mathematician/astronomer Johannes Kepler put to good use?

Hi Harriet,
this is an interesting capture... whether it is a camera effect or a "side-effect" of postprocessing, - doesn't really matter... because these boats seem to be hovering somewhere above the water surface which is almost imperceptibly merging with the sky at some invisible points. This scene conveys sort of a 'suspended' mood. Interesting, a little unusual view :)

wie es der Titel schon andeutet, ist es die Stille die du hier einfangen wolltest und das ist dir eindrucksvoll gelungen. Der noch leicht zu sehenden Hügel im diesigen Hintergrund verstärkt diese Atmosphäre noch zusätzlich. Aber auch dass man keine Menschen hier sieht und selbst die Möwen auf dem Steg sich nicht rühren drücken diese Stille aus. Ein Platz zum Kraft tanken. Gefällt mir sehr gut.

When I see boats, I always think of you and Donato. And here, this lovely photo is unmistakably "Harriet". I love th soft, graduated blue tones. Silent and mysterious!
the small pier pointing towards the horizon plus the fog gives a sense of infinity and of spell. I love the calm surface of the water and that discrete presence of the two boats. A poetic and harmonious composition.

Hi Harriet,
All these peaceful places you show us of Northern Germany or Denmark, where land and sea merge so harmoniously as if one was part of the other.
I love the pontoon which seems to be a birds'paradise, the two boats nearly lost in the far-away mist. Another place where it would be ideal to practise "men's yoga".
I have just commented Papagolf's photo: "La pęche", which talks about it in the same way as you did in your post "Yoga for men".

While the pier on the left creates a definitive lead-in, what I like most about the picture is how the water & sky merges in the horizon, almost mixes together like a fluid. The light is very ethireal, very moody & you captured that very well!

I have browsed your photographs with interest and selected this one to critique because of its special mood and lovely composition. I just love the romance of the sea and the sky mingling and merging, as if they go on forever.
The grassy bank makes a strong f/g triangle, whilst the well positioned jetty helps to train the eyes towards the water.

ho osservato molte foto della tua gallery e devo osservare che sai interpretare e riprendere molto bene le bellezze della natura e mi piacciono in particolar modo quelle nelle quali l'uomo e presente per nulla o solo in misura molto marginale. Hai un senso della composizione eccellente e in essa fai un uso ottimo anche dei colori che la stessa natura ti offre. In questa mi piace il contrasto tra il verde dell'erba che si perde nell'acqua e le sfumature di azzurro che si perdono in quelle del cielo in un unico che incanta. Completano mirabilmente lo scenario il pontile che si allunga nell'acqua con il suo ricco carico di uccelli e le due barche che galleggiano nell'acqua, immobili come l'acqua che le circonda.
Contrasto, nitidezza e colori sono di altissimo livello e concorrono alla perfezione del risultato che - devo osservare - č stato giustamente apprezzato con una buona votazione.
