Photographer's Note

The idyllic harbor of Hoeruphav is nicely located on the island Als in Southern Jutland.
As already mentioned before, Denmark this nation of seafarers - has long-standing maritime traditions since it is almost completely surrounded by water. Especially the shallow waters along the Baltic Sea offer perfect places for those who appreciate the benefits and possibilities of sea kayaking.
More and more people are starting to practice this nice and de-stressing sport. It is not as difficult as many people believe. As a beginner, you can learn it through weekend courses, so you can feel completely safe in the water. You learn the most basic skills such as rowing technique, getting in and out of the kayak, passing in and out of the waves as well as emptying a kayak full of water. You also learn to save your companion because you will almost certainly turn over quite a few times! Sea kayaking is not an extreme sport, even though some people think it is, it is more like a feeling of being one with nature. And it is the sensation of peace that comes over you when you have packed your kayak, ready to sail away. Free as a bird. Sea kayaking is about experiencing, enjoying and exploring the sea and the surrounding nature. And you can even take photos! You will find many fascinating impressions here in the nice gallery created by the exceptionally gifted trekearther and sea kayaker Tom aka gunbud.
During the next three weeks (my holidays) I will be here infrequently because I am going to spend most of my time with my friends and my family who will come to visit me. I wish you a nice time and very pleasant holidays too (to whom it may concern)!

Hello Harriet,

Beautiful visual effect on this photograph, I have the impression that these kayaks are in weightlessness beside their owners !!! I never tested this kind of walk on water and I see some more and more also in Brittany but on the sea and that tries me more and more A pleasant photograph where the light is well managed and pleasant natural colors. An area which seems quite pleasant to live, thank you Harriet.

This is such a sweet photograph.
Really nice action with the two people walking down the ramp with their kayaks ready to go for a paddle.
Nice simple location, good light with lots to see. It reminds me a lot of many of our harbour foreshores with the little bays people use for recreation.
Three weeks holiday, you lucky person, I know you'll have a great time.

Different and interesting subject. Nicely taken image in pleasant light. The the inclusion of the background houses and foreground rocks add much to the composition. We can even see a hint of refelections in the water. As Gilbert mentioned it may have been preferable to time the shot earlier, but it's not always possible.

I wish you a very pleasant vacation, maybe including some kayaking. This is a lovely scene, slightly amusing too. A nice composition with the rocks, the jetty and the kayak on fine parallel lines. There is a slight blueish hue that could have been toned down.

I love your composition and how you have managed to get the shot with the three diagonals all perfectly matched: the rocks, the slipway and the kayak.
Lovely natural colours.
Could possibly do with a tad more sharpness.

Hi Harriet,I really like this shot and also your notes, which between them tell me something about a subject I didn't know much about. There are some great lines in the shot - the wooden jetty curving down , and the top kayak lines up with the shoreline to interesting effect. Well done.

I like your photo.
It is something between a documentary and a humorous presentation. Humorous because the shapes of the boats look so funny and the people are hiding behind it.
The natural colors are really the asset of the shot.
I can imagine it is a typical scene in this place.
It seems very relaxed and peaceful, and so works your photo.

I could not have promoted the sport any better than you have here with your fine note and compelling photo.
These are a couple of sleeking looking vessesl that will beld nicely into the landscape.
While one is out paddling they are part of the enviroment and not simply passing through it.

First looking at this picture, I got an impression of to big fishes with legs, walking along the jetty. But there is a certain similarity to sharks here ;) I like the parallel lines of the "sharks" and the jetty. I also like the colours and the very nice weather. This Sunday marked the end of a long heatwave in Sweden...

I like the moment captured here with the two men in synchronised pace carrying their kayaks. You have also written a really good note to go along this fine photo which is perfectly exposed. The kayaks seem to blend in with the background, I wonder playing around with a higher focal length would help to separate the kayakers from the BG.

You choose the perfect moment to make a humoristic scene of this. I puzzled for some time about the carrying of the kayak, but I cant see it different then she carries the kayak and he only the paddles.
