Photographer's Note

The sea and sailing is an important part of Danish culture and the Danish people were amongst those known as the Vikings. Today the sea still plays an important role both commercially with the large numbers of ferries that connect the numerous islands and neighboring countries; and for recreation with its cozy harbors and sheltered bays.
In Denmark, - land and sea are very close connected. Denmark is a complex of islands and water, where the islands grow tongues and reefs far into the sea, and it seems that land and water try to embrace each other. For me the water with its many islands is the best part of the country.

The photo shows the Flensburg Fjord near Broager in South Jutland, it is occasionally known as the Flensburg Firth that in the far north of Germany forms part of the border between Germany (in the background) and Denmark - stretching 50 kilometers into the Baltic Sea. Areas with a unique history border its waters. In 1920 a referendum resulted in the restoration of North Schleswig to Denmark, and the border between Denmark and Germany has remained undisturbed in the middle of Flensburg Fjord ever since.

Hello Harriet,
An attractive composition with a light very redolent of a cold winter's day. The point of view is well chosen looking down the grassy bank towards the little boats and on to the far side of the fjord. Agreeable natural colours and good sharpness.

You've managed to convey great depth-of-field in this shot, choosing the vantage position judiciously, including the grass in the foreground, the small boats, and of course the facing landscape. The note is excellent as usual, in the best tradition of teaching through photography.

Un voile gris bleu est dominant dans cette image mais il est parfaitement compensé par les touffes de végétation au premier plan.Trčs bonne orientation de la lumičre.

Hello Harriet,
It's a pleasant view, as these calm waters, low lying islands and small boats usually are. But it's the mild colours that strike me as the most important feature of this photo. I like the fine green/gray/yellow tones of the grass, the colours warmed by the sun, and the grey/blue tones of the sky and the water. In these surroundings no bright colours were needed to make the boats eye-catching. Clear white was enough.

Outre la trčs intéressante note d'accompagnement, j'apprécie ce genre d'image oů la nature garde son aspect "sauvage". L'eau bénéficie d'un atout majeur trčs souvent dans tes compositions, et c'est fort agréable.
Je prendrai bien le petit chemin qui mčne aux cabanes et aux barques.

Hi Harriet.
A very mellow picture in the pale light of Autumn. Such gentle highlights on the white hulls of the boats, and a good perspective effect looking along the little path with the shadow and the light on the grass. Good note as usual. And of course the map is so useful. Zooming in, I couldn't see anything that looked like a ferry terminal, but there are quite a few small boats in the fjord. I wonder if that's how you crossed over.

It is really amazing to see and feel the summer atmosphere that you have captured here. This looks indeed like a very pleasant day, no rain, no storm! There is an attractive diagonal of boats and path and the soft and subdued colours are also adding good value to the photo.

Good to have you back.
The gentleness of the colours adds to the tranquility of the scene. The strongly positioned pathway is the only area of stong saturation, for that reason it grabs attention and makes a good lead into the shot.
The low sun reveals the relief with its curved shadows and highlighted patches.
Great depth.

A charming scene by the seaside, with the small boats resting ashore!
I notice the number of poles in the water but can't quiet figure out what they are for hehehe...
Otherwise I find the light lovely for December, and the haze in the air helps create this strong sense of depth in the composition!

schöne Landschaftsaufnahme mit einer tollen Bildkompositon. Mir gefällt vor allem wie der kleine Fußweg den Betrachter ins Bild hineinführt. Durch die verschiedenen Elementen wie die Boote und die Pfähle im Wasser erzeugst du ein gutes Gefühl für die Tiefe. Auch das Licht und die Farben gefallen mir hier absolut gut.

Wieder lesens- und sehenswert - und für viele TE-ler beispielhaft. Für das Foto hattest Du ein wunderschönes Seitenlicht, das alles irgendwie plastisch erscheinen lässt und die aufleuchtenden Boote sind schöne Blickfänge. Wieder einmal konntest Du die "Seele" dieser Landschaft einfangen ...

we had a danish farmer in my homeland and he had a big farm surrouned by a big river, like a peninsula with islands around, then I guess he build his own denmark.haha.

Hi Harriet,

You're capturing well this landscape by a good composition and excellent tone/clarity, so it's interesting and impressive to see the pier of the ground in which a reed grows luxuriantly and some boats are connected and quiet sea. Here seems to very pastoral and peaceful place from the entire image. And, the green on the opposite shore draws out an additional good atmosphere.
