Photographer's Note
Flying from Helsinki to NYC we had a rare cloudless view of Greenland. I've flown similar routes over the world's largest island many times and it's always been obscured by clouds. The scale of ice and mountains here is incredible, with the world's fastest moving glaciers looking like highways of ice. I've heard they travel up to 12 km/day. With global warming this might be accelerating, and Greeland is becoming a major research area for scientists studying the earth's rising temperatures. Many scientists are now saying the ice melt is happening at a much quicker rate than predicted. Hopefully we can turn the tide, and quickly.
