First snow in Espoo 2008.

I got an itchy triggerfinger when I saw the first snow. And practising low-light shooting isn't bad either. The light turned out to be quite a challenge. The sky was orange (light polution). I lit the tree in the foreground with an external flash from the left, which I triggered manually.

The image was shot in RAW (because of the difficult whitebalance), whitepoint adjusted and sharpened(*) during conversion. (This I did mostly to get used to the new version of Canon software I just installed. I normally don't shoot very much in RAW.) Image was rotated slightly, cropped, resized and framed in Gimp. No USM was applied.

(*) I'm actually really pleasantly surprised of the good quality of the sharpening in DPP. It really brought out a lot of detail and no artifacts in the original. This downsized version almost looks a bit oversharpened...
