Photographer's Note

I've done every now and then wedding photography in weddings of friends and relatives. But this time we just happened to meet a partying group in a bar in Turku. It was fun and refreshing to take shots without obligations to please the couple or relatives.

There's one word in Finnish language that has seven vowels in a row. 'Hääyöaie' means something like wedding night intention. Now try to pronounce that!

Phone camera on low light gives rather grainy appearance. But on the other hand my own memories from early hours in a bar aren't always that sharp either. Removed blue channel altogether with channel mixer as it was the noisiest one. Adjusted colour balance for moody light.

Hääyöaie! Ha! See? I can say it :P
Hehehe... As a pure shot in itself it is obviously grainy and not sharp, but as a portrayal of what it is like to participate in a wedding ceremony in the middle of the night (esp. in Finland = loads of drinking) this is an excellent capture! I think you've really managed to give the feeling of the night across this simple shot and also added some of the dynamic people usually go through in these events quite well :) (note: woman looking at husband who is in turn looking somewhere else....? ;D)
Although clearly off the usual landscape shots, I really appreciate this one :D

Hi Kari,
I really like this shot; especially because you presented a way to remove noise of which I've never heard. I'll have to read more about a technique that gives such excellent results in reducing noise!!
