A view on the Puy de Dôme summit, the highest point (1,465 metres) in the range of Puys volcanos close to Clermont-Ferrand in Auvergne. This volcano is sleeping from 12,000 years. There is a great 360° panorama from the summit, you can even see the Mont Blanc on very good weather ! On the summit there are ruins of a former roman temple (the Mercure temple), a weather lab and a TV tower built in 1956. A railway drives to the summit from 2012. But you can also reach the summit by walking. The most famous path is the "muletiers" (muleteers) path. It starts at Ceyssat pass, it is 2 kilometres long but has an average slope of 19.35%. A short but quite hard path indeed !
