One in a series of pictures from the beautiful Southern French city of Aix-en-Provence.

Aix-en-Provence is a city and commune in the south of France, some 30 kilometres (19 miles) north of Marseille. It is in the region of Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, in the département of Bouches-du-Rhône, of which it is a subprefecture. The population is approximately 143,000.; its inhabitants are called Aixois or, less commonly, Aquisextains.

Aix (Aquae Sextiae) was founded in 123 BC by the Roman consul Sextius Calvinus, who gave his name to its springs, following the destruction of the nearby Gallic oppidum at Entremont. In 102 BC it was the scene of the Battle of Aquae Sextiae when the Romans under Gaius Marius defeated the Cimbri and Teutones, resulting in mass suicide among the captured women; a story which passed into Roman legends of Germanic heroism.

In the 4th century AD it became the metropolis of Narbonensis Secunda. It was occupied by the Visigoths in 477. In the succeeding century, the town was repeatedly plundered by the Franks and Lombards, and was occupied by the Saracens in 731 and by Charles Martel in 737. During the Middle Ages it was made the capital of Provence The city reached its zenith during the period after the 12th century, when, under the houses of Barcelona/Aragon and Anjou, it became an artistic centre and seat of learning. It still has a major university and a large student population.

Aix passed to the crown of France with the rest of Provence in 1487, and in 1501 Louis XII established there the parliament of Provence, which existed until 1789 when it was abolished under the French Revolution. In the 17th and 18th centuries, the town was the seat of the Intendance of Provence.

quelle place et allée quel arche végétatif et perspective sur ces beaux arbres vert merveilleuse profondeur avec en fond cette fontaine l'animation sur la place avec les personnages splendide vue.

Hello Stephen,

This does appear to have had pp, making it appear as much like a painting as a photograph.
That doesn't spoil it, just creates a different effect.

The tree-lined avenue is well captured and, with the inclusion of the figures, sets a scene of leisurely shopping and relaxation.
I always like to see shadows which here, add interest to the pavings.

This could very easily be a postcard of the city, promoting its attractive nature.

Excellent sharpness and perspective. The strong back light has been well managed without any noticeable degradation of the colour. Good lead in lines and perspective & the people animate the scene. Tfs!

What a lovely view of this place underneath the tall, green trees. I love the relaxed summer mood of all the people strolling about the place, it's a nice and wide view nicely framed by the warm colours of the façades.

The street is sending my eyes toward the fountain which is creating depth and perspective. You have captured well a daily scene. The point of view is showing the details of the trees and of the buildings. The colors are excellent. Have a nice day.

Hello Stephen,
I agree with Bev that the traces of fairly heavy PP has made this look like a painting. It is not at all a bad thing, as long as the colours are nice and the clouds look natural, which they do. Aix is obviously a very pleasant city, which has been shown here many times before. The people and the long lines of trees create a nice atmosphere.

Je me souviens trčs bien de cet endroit. Juste le marcher et admirer les boutiques de chaque côté et on passe une belle journée. Je ne suis pas certain d'apprécier la post production qui fait tout faux.

I was there in the late autumn and the view was also enchanting. Beautiful composition with this plane trees alley. Nice view of one of many fountains there.
