Photographer's Note

On a cloudless day in the summer I stood below the tower of the Chappelle Notre-Dame de la Gardette, also known as St. George's Chapel, and admired the extraordinarily beautiful view. In shooting the scene I lined up the the tower, the palm and the flowering tree in order to accentuate the depth of field.

Notables who have frequented the town since the turn of the 20th century have included iconic artists Claude Monet, Pablo Picasso and Marc Chagall (who is actually buried in the local cemetery) as well as actors/writers Yves Montand, Simone Signoret, James Baldwin.

The medieval walled town is known as an arts center, with numerous modern art galleries, boutiques and cafés dotting the town. Reflecting the town's high end clientele, its property values have hovered around 10,000 €/square meter.

Camera settings: RAW, ISO 200, 9.6 MB, focal length 28 mm, fill flash to accentuate colors of the flowering tree.
