Photographer's Note
A artist sits under the shade of the tree and contently paints and shares the same feelings Van Gogh probably would of felt when he painted numurous of famous paintings in the town of St Remy du Provence where he stayed and loved and unfortunaly in the end took his own life.
This was taken a few 100 yards up from the town in the grounds of the mental hospital where he ended up, now its a beautiful place to visit and has many walks and his paintings are on signs where he painted them from and it is nice to see ones we all recognise and where he sat to paint them. Although it has lots of visitors that pass through it incredibly it is a very quiet and serene place and I advise anyone who is in the area to stop off and see for yourselves.
Thank you for your comments.

A very poetic image John, the parked bike, the painter and the mysterious background. B&W worked well here, it adds a fine touch. TFS

Fine image John, beautiful composition and the B&W work greatly in order to create the atmosphere, compliments, a beautiful portrait and a full of old-time appeal image.

Hi John
I am looking at a photo from another time, another present long past that have left a trace in the subconscience of the world,as it must have been that that attracted me to open the vignette.
You have succeed in creating a nostalgic moment, reminescent of the past and of your subject.
Have a good WE

I very much like the composition, with the painter sitting in the shadow of the tree, his bicycle telling us how he got there and the beautiful surrounding giving us an idea what kind of landscape he might paint. I also like that the painter is silhouetted against the brighter grass and how the white (empty?) paper glows in front of him. On the downside I think the contrast of the final image is a bit too hard, would have loved to see more detail in the shadows and a bit less agressive highlights in the grass. Nevertheless a fine picture to which b&w suits very well. Also thanks for telling us the story in your note.

A shot with a mood :-) I suppose shooting wasn't easy, because of strong light and contrasts. The silhouette, however, is clearly visible, quite telling even without the details.
Well done!
The only one thing I find quite distracting here is a patch of the white sky in top right corner. Just a detail...
Best regards
Joanna
