Castle of the "Ducs de Bretagne".

From the tower of the "Boulangerie", view on the tower of the "Pied de Biche" and a part of the ditches of the castle built at the edge of an arm of the Loire, now filled. The ditches were directly fed by the Loire. One sees the access to the castle, after passage on the bridge levis.

The castle

The construction of this building starts in 1207. On order of Jean IV of Brittany, Guy de Thouars builds the first castle, known as "New Tower". "Pierre de Dreux" says "Mauclerc" and "Jean Ier le Roux" one extend the fortifications of Nantes and increases the castle, which will be consolidated in 1365, and there remains visible the tower of the "Vieux Donjon".
In 1466 "François II de Bretagne" orders the construction of others towers on the same site and fact of the fortress its main home and one of the first fortress of "Bretagne".
In 1491, "Anne de Bretagne", become queen of France by marrying "Charles VIII", supplements the work of her father François II by adding others towers. With the death of "Charles VIII" in 1499, Anne marries "Louis XII" and makes increase some buildings.
