Past time !

Once upon a time there was a walled city in Northern France famous across the land. Many a battle was fought here and by the end of the Hundred Years War, its chateau lay in ruins. Weakened further by a plague and fire, the city slept for centuries until an artist, enchanted by its cobbled streets and storybook houses, brought it back to life. He adorned it with roses and transformed the chateau remains into an exquisite garden. That was 1901 and the artist was the post-impressionist Henri Le Sidaner.
Today, the city -- Gerberoy &endash; is one of the "100 most beautiful villages in France" and protected as a classified site.

And it is sure a bautiful place. A very good pov with nice details: the lamp on the right, the arch along the way that goes up and that finishes with a slight curve, the house with blue door and windows. A quite sleeping village where the life is still life, I think. Thanks for sharing us, Philippe.

Bonjour Philippe, on continue la ballade, je vois... J'aime bien la composition quoique j'aurais peut etre coupe une partie de la maison de gauche, qui assombrit un peu la photo. Par contre la maison aux colombages bleus est tout a fait superbe, quelle est l'enseigne accrochee devant, rapport a une fonction particuliere de cette maison ?

Great composition, Philippe - it really is a step back in time. I especially like the detail on the cobbled stone pavement and the perspective it creates. The light from the side alley is also good. Interesting note. Well done.

Philippe, what a great picture of this old farm, the cobblestone road is really of the time, the buildings are very lovely, my father was a farmer, and buildings were more Flemish style. My compliments for this.

The reholded light of shadows upto the small gate in perspective to the light gives this yard an intime touch that you captured nicely of this classified site.

Walking in a village like this, looking for all these beautiful details, trying this point of view, trying another, waiting for that tourist, who's just "in my lens"....

What a great place, Philippe. A beautiful array of old buildings and structures, with a great textural richness (cobblestones, brickwork, half-timbering). I also like the beam of light falling into this scene from the side, and the perspective towards the back established by the path. Very nice.

En semaine ce village est vide et cela donne au photographe une certaine liberté pour photographier tranquillement.

Well I'm very glad he so the beauty here and did his work. This looks like a very beautiful place. I love the textures of the cobblestones and the bricks on the wall. The colors are beautiful throughout. I really like the long perspective through the gate and continuing on with greenery and great lines. It has a really painting like quality to it. The lighting is very well managed. Perhaps there is a bit of barrel distortion and perspective distortion that might be fixed to improve it. You certainly composed it well, especially with the towering tree watching over the scene. Great work! Beautiful village.

Salut Philippe, l'ambiance rurale - et humide - est particuličrement bien rendue ; le cadrage est bien équilibré par cet axe au milieu, et le rayon de soleil qui apporte un peu de dynamique. Bien sűr la grange de gauche apporte une grande zone ombrée mais c'est pas trop dérangeant et puis comment faire autrement ?

J'adore ces villages aux atmosphčres médiévales. Ici, avec les maisons ŕ colombage, le cadre est superbe. La route pavée en harmonie avec les façades des maisons, met en valeur la pierre au sens noble du terme. De belles couleurs naturelles, en particulier rendues par les maisons ŕ colombage. J'aime le détail de la lanterne aussi : comme tu disais dans une de tes notes précédentes, elle va comme un charme avec l'environnement. Bien vu, Philippe.

Il a beaucoup de charme ce village, ces anciennes maisons si bien entretenues et si bien décorées sont lŕ pour nous le dire!
Je ne savais pas qu'il existait un des plus beaux villages de France pas si loin de chez moi, cela me donne envie de le visiter en semaine loin des hordes du WE.

La lumičre joue sur les pavés ,la composition nous fait signe du doigt jusqu'ŕ cette porte ŕ l'arričre plan pour nous inviter ŕ remonter le temps. A suivre sans hésiter.

Superbe photo. La perspective est magnifique. Assez curieux cette arcade avec ce mur (était-ce la partie d'un bâtiment aujourd'hui disparu?) au fond du sentier. Les couleurs son splendides et la netteté parfaite. J'aime beaucoup ces pavés marqué par l'usure du temps (ils ont certainement dű voir passer du monde!!!).

Oh great picture. "Past time" is really the correct title. That's how it feels. Really great to feel that old atmosphere. This wasn't just an open air museum?
