Photographer's Note

Our Lady of Bethleem chapel in Saint-Jean-de-Boiseau, a few kilometers south-west of Nantes. This chapel was built in 15th century under late gothic style. It was filed as historical monument in 1911. The chapel hosted an artwork during Estuaire contemporary art exposure that took place between Nantes and Saint-Nazaire a few weeks ago. The artwork was called D'Io and was created in 1971 by italian artist Gino de Dominicis (died in 1998). D'Io is a sound installation. When near the chapel, a devil laugh, none other than the artist’s laugh, takes the spectator by surprise ! The workart fitted very well with the chapel because of its sculpted chimeras. I visited the workart in the afternoon, but I think I should have visited it at sunset, the frightening effect must be even stronger !
