Photographer's Note

The Col du Lautaret in the high Alps, is the gateway between Grenoble and Briancon and a road that is kept open throughout the winter.

The road is one of the highlights of the Alps, and climbs to 2058 metres at the Col. It is a place where you have beautiful views of the mountains, especially the peak of la Meije and the glaciers around this mountain.

The road leaving the Col and climbing in the bottom right corner of the photo takes you to the 2646 metre Col du Galibier.

It is a popular place to visit with great access to the mountains and an Alpine Garden to visit at the Col.
