Photographer's Note

The Basilique Notre-Dame de Nice is a sugarwhite bright apparition on a dark night. It is the biggest church of Nice, and was built in typically french neo-gothic style in the 1860's. The idea was to "french-ize" the city after it was ceded from Italy to France in 1860, as a territorial thank you for French assistance in the Second Italian War of Independence against Austria. The basilique's design was inspired by the 13th century cathedral of Angers.
