Christmas tree ... and the controversy in Bordeaux
A Christmas tree in front of the Grand Théâtre de Bordeaux. This year no big tree in the city center of Bordeaux as it was the tradition before… indeed, the new ecological mayor of Bordeaux decided otherwise. Too expensive the big tree and especially not very green to cut a big tree and to forward it through the roads of a part of France… this decision created a controversy among the population of Bordeaux and even beyond in France.
Here is when a tree that marks this period of celebration and its traditions.

It looks you have a wise mayor this time in Bordeaux, Jean, this tree is no-less beautiful for this year humble celebrations of the holidays.
The illuminated building provides a wonderful backdrop to the big lot where people stride and chat around.

Bonjour Jean,
Beautiful photo first of all. Magnificent blue hour moment. The theatre is so warmly lit and the sky has the perfect color to balance all the light sources.
People present there animate the scene.
And of course the Christmas tree adds so much beauty and character here.
I am personally not much into traditions but sometimes I have a feeling that in the public space many traditions which have Christian connotation are being neglected in the name of progress while other religions are somehow being treated with more respect in the name of political correctness. Same happens in the Easter season when Easter eggs are more often renamed to simply chocolate eggs etc.
If it is just one tree in the middle of a town, I don't think there is much ecological sense not to do it.
Having said that the tree is pretty much an old German tradition which has not much to do with Christianity actually.
It has a nice decorative touch though for sure especially on the dark short winter days,

Bonjour Jean, I have mixed feelings about whether to have a Christmas tree or not; it is a reminder of a special time of year, and to see a large tree lit up in a town/city centre is a cheering sight on dark winter days.
I can understand the Mayor’s point of view but......
Anyway this is a well composed picture with the tree in the foreground and the beautifully lit theatre in the background.
A lovely blue hour picture.
Kind regards, Jean.

Hello Jean,
A nice photo of the illuminated building, the Christmas tree in the corner and enough people to satisfy my wish for animated views. I like the warm tones across the square under the colder sky at the blue hour. The photo is perfectly sharp and well exposed.
Best regards,
Gert

Bonjour Jean,

Hello Jean
The attack on Christmas is in full swing. The woke and politically correct crowd here in the USA is making a quite a bit of trouble in many public spaces. The good thing is the general population still celebrates with lights and displays in their yards. It must be the reason for the season. Wonderful capture of the building and small tree.

Hello Jean,
Indeed the cutting down of trees causes a lot of concern to eco-friendly people but Christmas trees are so much part of the tradition of Christmas and maybe needed even more in these grim times. I suppose, the answer to the problem is to plant a tree, in this spot, so that it is growing and ready to be decorated each year.
Back to your photograph, which is a very well composed and executed blue hour scene. The illuminated Christmas tree, in the f/g, both sets the scene and creates an excellent sense of depth to the warmly lit theatre.
There are enough figures to animate the scene and also remind us of rules, at the end of this pandemic hit year!
I wish you and your family a very Happy Christmas, however you spend it, Bev :-)

Hello Jean,
This tree might be simple, but it looks very nice next to the beautiful theater. I think the theater itself is the star this year, with its elegant architecture and warm lighting. Merry Christmas!

Bonjour Jean
Call me cynical, but the mayor is probably covering his own back in case big crowds in the city centre cause Covid 19 to spread, in which case the knives will be out and people will be looking to blame somebody. Most likely the mayor! Let's hope things get back to normality next year. Tfs!

Bonjour Jean!
It seems that many of us show dark or even nocturnal captures for this year's Christmas wishing.
Not a Merry Christmas, but a contemplative one for you and all of your family!

Bonjour Jean,

Hi Jean,
It is a hard decisionto cut or not a tree for decoration because or you go agains the enviroment or againts the people culture. What your opnion about this?
Nice photo, I like the building light and the blue sky.
