Playful fountains, a photo from Provence-Alpes-Cote-dAzur, South

Photographer's Note

This is the Promenade du Paillon, a relatively new park in Nice that follows the course of a river through the city (the river is now an underground channel). This section has a lot of fountains that suddenly spring up at random (so it seemed to me) and play for a while, then after a few minutes they turn off. Good fun for kids!

The late afternoon sun lit up the fountains of water perfectly. There were many people strolling about - the French might call these people flaneurs and flaneuses.

Just the thing for a hot day which it obviously wasn't when you took this photo. The light coloured water is very effective in between the darker almost silhouetted people and the dark building behind. A great one.

I remember that Buddhist Monk like statue seemingly suspended in mid air. But missed these fountains, which kid love to play in. Tfs!

Hello Vincent,
Theres a fine light and nice contrasts between the relatively dark persons and the bright fountains. A strong diagonal and an equally distinct horizontal line give the photo a nice structure. I recognize the figures seated on pillars from earlier photos on the site.

Hello Vincent,

The lighting was perfect for the impression that wanted to achieve. The vertical jets and wet patches are being highlighted by the low sunlight , making them appear as sylph-like dancers.
By contrast, the figures become silhouettes against the fountains.

What a wonderful place to make a stroll, with all the fountains.
You chose an excellent angle with the people in foreground.
Soft contrast too.

Hello Vincent, you caught the late afternoon light perfectly as it highlights the fountains of water whilst the passers-by are almost in silhouette.
Your timing was perfect, the fountains of water look frozen, like stalagmites or giant icicles!

Hello Vince,
It does looks very stunning these 'frozen water-jets', sort of like humans-skeletons-water formations against the sunlight.
I also like the two human sculptures sitting on the poles.
I've never seen so many fountains in one section, I bet the children are having a blast running through it but where are the children ???
Nevertheless, it's a very atmospheric scene in the late afternoon. Even the dog is afraid of the playful fountains.
