Schloß Schönau

Das Wasserschloß ist im Kern eine mittelalterliche Anlage aus zwei Wohntrakten mit Staffelgiebeln und einem siebengeschossigen Bergfried. Die noch vorhandenen Bauelemente im alten Teil des Schlosses gehen vermutlich auf die Familie Perghofer zurück (um 1480). Im Jahre 1533 geht das Schloß durch Kauf von der Familie Perghofer an die Familie Edelbeck über. 1560 wird Schönau als Sitz und Hofmark angegeben. Seit der Heirat der Barbara Katharina Edelbeck mit Georg Sigmund Riederer von Paar am 24.09.1670 ist das Schloß im Besitz der Riederer Freiherrn von Paar zu Schönau, deren Nachkommen auch heute noch in diesem Prachtbau wohnen. Auf seine jetzige Pracht wuchs der Schloßkomplex durch mehrere Um- und Ausbauten heran. 1867 wurde der königliche Oberhofgärtner Carl Joseph Effner beauftragt, die Parkanlage im Stil eines englischen Landschaftsgartens zu gestalten. Effner entwarf auch den Wintergarten auf dem Dach der Münchener Residenz, die Gartenanlagen von Linderhof und Herrenchiemsee für Ludwig II. von Bayern. Vorbild für den Schönauer Park war der Englische Garten in München, den Rumford angelegt hatte. Der im englischen Landschaftsstil mit zahlreichen exotischen Bäumen angelegte Park ist in erster Linie ein Verdienst der Baronin Rosalie, die damit etwas vom Ambiente ihrer Heimat nach Schönau holte. Der ursprüngliche Park war nur halb so groß wie die heutige Anlage, wurde aber kontinuierlich von C. v. Effner ausgebaut. Beim Umbau des Schlosses 1901 bis 1903 wurde dann das Feichtnerhölzl und der Wald bis zum Fidinger Weiher in die Parkanlage mit einbezogen. Der bis dahin viereckige Schloßweiher erhielt seine heutige geschwungene Form. Neben dem Park ließ Baronin Rosalie eine kleine Gärtnerei anlegen, um die Blumen, auf die sie großen Wert legte, in Glashäusern geschützt ziehen zu können. Auf dem Irleberg wurde ein Pavillion errichtet. Der alte und teils seltene Baumbestand des großzügig angelegten Parks ist ebenfalls einmalig in unserer Gegend. Neben einheimischen Bäumen wie Ulmen, Ahorn, Buchen, Akazien, Linden, Schwarzkiefern, Eiben usw. finden sich exotische Arten wie der Zuckerahorn, amerikanische Eichen, japanische Lärchen, ein Rulpenbaum, Magnolien, Platanen, Thujen und Sumpfzypressen. Besonders eindrucksvoll ist eine riesige Blutbuche. Zeitweilig waren 50 Angestellte nur für Park und Garten zuständig. Seit den 30er Jahren ist der Park öffentlich zugänglich, bis in die 60er Jahre wurde das Schönauer Volksfest im Schloßpark abgehalten. 1951 wurde der Schloßpark und das südlich angrenzende Gelände unter Landschaftsschutz gestellt. Schwerste Schäden im Schloßpark richteten ein Eisregen 1987 und vor allem ein Sturm in der Nacht vom 28.2. zum 1.3.1990 an.
