Holocaust Memorial – Berlin
Denkmal für die ermordeten Juden Europas, Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe.

I rejoin Lars on our European trip of this summer with my impressions of our visit to Berlin.
I start with three pictures of the Holocaust Memorial.
These are my addition to Lars' photographs (https://www.trekearth.com/gallery/photo1587918.htm) of this impressive monument.

There was a long discussion in German politics before this memorial, designed by the architect Peter Eisenman, was inaugurated on 10 May 2005.

De 2711 concrete slabs (stelae) are places in a grid pattern on a sloping field.
The stelae are not all of the same height. At the edges you can look over it and in the center of the memorial you are swallowed by tall blocks.
The monument in the heart of Berlin close to the Brandenburg Tower is an impressive testimony to these horrors from WW II.

The monument is certainly photogenic, yet it is difficult to capture the oppressive atmosphere in photographs.
With these three pictures, I'm going to try to give you an impression of this.
