Photographer's Note

Recent uploads on TrekEarth have revealed that the entire square has now been paved over. So this scene no longer exists or is buried under concrete. It would have been nice to see a memorial to the estimated 22,700-25,000 people who died in the horrific bombing of Dresden in February 1945. Perhaps one exists, but I never saw it. All I could find on Google Images was this:


In Britain, 43,000 people were killed in German air raids, almost half of those in London. Here's a link with more information and photos.
