Photographer's Note

Hello Everyone,

Yesterday, I posted a photograph of Bernkastel, a castle high on the hilltop, above the river Moselle.

Today, I am showing the amazing views that were possible from this viewpoint. You can understand why, first the Romans, and then the Medieval builders, chose this spot as a protective fort.

It was only when I studied the photograph that I realised just how many boats were visible on the river and how many cars were parked along the riverside!

I will add a workshop showing the ascent to the castle.

It is extremely cold but sunny, today. I hope the sun is shining on you wherever you are, Bev :-)

Hello Bev,
This is really a stunning view, completely worth the possibly exhausting climb to reach the castle (or maybe it was a comfortable bus ride). There are so many details to discover among the houses and along the quays, including the reflections of trees and the bridge. The fine exposure makes the photo even nicer.

Hello Beverley,
West side of Bernkastel is modern town, relatively speaking, but the attraction is the old city just bellow the casrtle.
Wonderful high POV panorama of the river, beautiful colors of the slopes around and sky reflection over water.
The guy in the WS looks familiar...

Hi Bev,

The length of the river is creating depth. The point pf view is showing the details of the bridge, of the boats and of the buildings. The light is enhancing the colors. Have a nice day.

Hello Beverley, what a neat and tidy looking town.
This is a lovely view that shows so much.
On the right hand side of the river, those green areas must be vineyards, with narrow roads and tracks winding their way between the vines.
I like the boats on the river too.

Hello Beverley,
A great view of the river with the rather steep hill on the right hand side and the charming town on the the left. The bridge is well included in the middle. The sunlight was pleasant and clear.

Hello Beverley,
The bend of the Moselle makes for a nice composition of the photo with many vineyards on the right and a pretty town on the left whose white facades sparkle in the sunlight.
Several interesting elements make this a very interesting picture.
I guess in the WS your husband was standing in front of the arch through which you took the photo you showed yesterday in the WS.
Also that photo has excellent sharpness, clarity and perspective. Beautiful with the long shadow of the fence on the trail.

A good one over the Moselle valley which I haven't been to. The river is much narrower than the Rhine. I assume you tried plenty of the wine?

Hi Bev,
Bernkastel-Kues is a lovely little town with all the old buildings. I haven't climbed to this high viewpoint with fantastic views. This view downstream looks great. The weather was perfect, and autumn colours were just starting to appear when you were there. It is cold here in Tampere too, -9 degrees C at the moment. I noticed this is your 2000th upload in TE. Congratulations!

a fabulous general view of the town and the river and those boats. yes, it is a special high pov and we can see many interesting details in your photo. the portrait with the ruined arch is marvelous too.
here a very sunny and hot day, we are crazy for a rain, I saw one (in the satellite map) acting above Argentina, maybe it will come to us in few hours.

The perspective of the river winding between the vineyards on its banks is beautiful, the view of Bernkastel is splendid, I visited this area 17 years before your trip, a beautiful memory of these places.
Great situation of the castle on such a high hill, as we can see in your photo of the WS.

This is a great bird's-eye-view. There are lots of details to study. It's interesting how the land on the left side of the river is packed with houses, and the right side, at least the part we can see, is emptier. Nice depth to the view, too. Take care!

It looks like a big highway made of water. This is a fantastic view. I can see why you couldn't use the WS as the main entry, but its quality on par with a candidate for a main entry.
