Hi TE friends. Continuing the series "The Old Town of Chania", I present you today one of the very characteristic houses of the old town of Chania. Certain constructors making use of the existence of the walls in some areas, they were building their houses on them. Such a house, is the house in this photograph.

In 1252 the region of Chania was given to Venetian colonists, who ensured the reconstruction of the city and the reinforcement of its fortifications. In the 14th century the need for an extended fortification wall was obvious, and it was attested the build of a new, bigger one, of which no trace is preserved. Around the 16th century, due to the fear of the forthcoming Turkish attack, it was decided the re-fortification of the cities and other strategic costal areas of Crete. Special care was given to the fortification of Chania and the nearby port of Suda.
