I was not certain if i should include this pic in the categoty "Architecture" or "Ruins". Finally i decided that "humorous" is probably more appropriate because it looks so out of place , out of time and so naive. Please correct me if i m wrong...
It was a common practice in some greek islands or remote countryside villages in the years past to collect stones from some ancient ruins and use it as architectural elements. Many churches were situated on anchient temples and the material that was the easiest and cheepest to find was the stone pillars.
In the village of "Kastro" ("Castle") however, in the island of Sifnos, the ruins were not used only as building material but also as decorative elements... I have seen a marble sarcophagus being transformed into a flower basin.
In this case some proud villager has put this perfectly preserved stone pillar to act as ...a stone pillar!! to his typical Aegian white little square house.
The red broom and the dustpan that at the bottom right look so cute next to the pillar.
