Photographer's Note

Heracles, a sculpture inside the museum of Athaea Athena, near the ancient Temple.
Heracles has just run forward and dropped to one knee to shoot a volley of arrows at his enemy. In the next instant he will dash off again. As he pulls the bowstring, his muscles strain. It is the moment just before he shoots the arrow. His clothes and hair look natural. The flaps of his tunic overlap as they would in real life. The head of the Nemean lion is on top of his head much like a hat and identifies him as Heracles. The lines of his hair, eyebrows and nose form shadowed undercuts.
