Rio Bridge II, a photo from Ahaia, Peloponnesus

Photographer's Note

Another shot of the Rio Bridge east of Patras, this time showing a vehicular ferry docked adjacent to the bridge. Its sister ship is docked under the furthest bridge span on the opposite shore. The 2.4 km long bridge connects the Peloponnese Peninsula to the Greek mainland, saving a long trip back to Corinth Isthmus. Not sure why vehicles would use a ferry rather than pay the bridge toll, but maybe there is no toll?

Wonderful combined picture of the ferry in the port and bridge. The contribution of reflection by the small puddle gave a nice extra interest to the scene.

Hello Chris,
The old style ferry and the modern bridge seen by side illustrate well two ways of crossing Greek water. The ferry and the bridge both show us diagonal lines that make them suitably matching and connect foreground and background. The puddle reflects them both.

Hello Chris,
I really like the combination with the large bridge and the ferry at right. It was a beautiful and bright day with great sunlight. The reflections in the bit of water look amazing as well.

lepa luka sa trajektom i most u pozadini, dobro pokazano sa lepim bojama, kontrastom, perspektivom i uhvacenim trenutkom sa sa oblacima koji dolaze i donose kisu.

Bonsoir Chris,

Une bonne comparaison entre utiliser le traversier ou le pont. La prise de vue permet de voir les détails du pont. La lumičre met en valeur les couleurs de l'image. Bonne soirée.

I don't remember a toll on the bridge but then I did catch as bus to the Peloponnese. A good photo showing the 2 links to the mainland. And I just realised that we didn't use that bridge in 1998 as it only opened in 2004! WE used a bridge across the canal proper.

Hi Chris,
It is interesting to compare the scale of that huge bridge and that ferry. The capacity of the ferry must be pretty small and make me wonder if it was really used to connect the same places. Triangular shapes on both subjects please my eyes too.

Hi Chris,
Surely the existence of the ferry allowed you to create a better composition so for whatever reason it is there, it was beneficial :)
But to be honest I think it is always good to have options, if for whatever reason the bridge became not passable at least there are alternatives.
Brilliant composition here. I like the reflection in the foreground. The bridge is so interesting here, very well lit and with interesting setting.

Hello Chris,

This is a fine capture of the modern bridge which is perfectly supported, in the f/g, by the ferry and the reflections. The white features make an interesting separation line between the quay and the sky.
