Somewhere over the rainbow..., a photo from Jasz-Nagykun-Szolnok, East

Photographer's Note

It was a lovely rainbow when I arrived to the city of Szolnok on a calm summer evening.

This part of the city was built during the socialist era (from late 1960s to early 1980s)and that time Szolnok was one of the most desired modern city of Hungary. The Jubileum square was surrounded by hypermodern skyscaper housing estates, railway station, cultural centre and shopping centres.

Nowadays it is deemed an ugly, rundown city lost its key role in the centre of the great Plains of Hungary.

Inhabitants hope there will be some days when Szolnok earns back its once importance, economic and cultural leading role.

nice colourful shot...I like the juxtaposition between the colourful happy rainbow and the ugly grey skyscraper
btw...globalisation has reached this place too! (mediamarkt logo!)

Nice verticals, on the left the dull, boring panel builging, pn the other - the miracle of the Rainbow! Great shot, and with a touch of nostalgia due to the Judy Garland's song in the title...

HI Jalab,

I saw your picture this morning and thought that it was really beautiful - a bit like the warm and "evening" version of a similar photo I took in Berlin some time ago ("summer in the city" I called it)...
I like lines and elevated shots, and this one is a good example!

Most dícsérjem? Igaz, van még két ház Szolnokon, amit ennél is jobban rühellünk, de a szerencsétlen bentlakók miatt viszonylag ritkán szidunk. Amúgy randa városokat lehetne még sorolni az Alföldről szép számmal, de minek piszkálni az ott élők önérzetét? A szivárvány viszont szép.

Hi Jalab,
you were able to capture the raibow in a fantastic position. There is only a bit of yellow colour cast that gives a golden touch to the composition, but at the same time does not emphasize enough the raibow colours. I'll post a workshop to show my interpretation. Anyway this is definitely a picture that was worth taking and posting. Congratulations, Dario.
