Photographer's Note

Please check the TE Beta version which is larger and more detailed OLAFSVIK CHURCH.

This is the coolest interior of a church I've ever seen, and whats best is that it's never been posted on TE before until now. There has been 1 exterior photo of it, but thats it. I've also added the MAP feature to show you where this town is located.

This is the main church in the fishing town of Olafsvik Iceland. I stopped in this little town to simply fill up on gas, and to grab a snack to eat. While I was driving around, I noticed this church and thought I'd drop in, I'm so glad I did.

It was built in 1967 by architect Hakon Hertervig. Reading from a plaque outside of the chruch, it states this is the first modern church in Iceland. The design of the church has received much attention from around the world. When looked at the church from North to South, it resembles a ship, and when looked from at from above its in the shape of a salted Cod Fish.

The architect got his inspiration from the fact Olafsvik has long been a fishing town. So he wanted to incorporate the Cod, and the Ship. The Church is made up of only Triangles!

In the WS i'll post 2 exterior photos
