"Shape of my heart", a photo from Wicklow, South

Hey Folks,

One of my fresh shots today. I've discovered this place recently. It was one of those wintery Saturdays, when I just couldn't stay in the house. The place itself was really picturesque, however it wasn't an easy trip. The weather conditions in the mountains (Wicklow Mountains, in co. Dublin) were very severe, on the way back we were caought by the snow-storm and the visibility was very, very low. Anyhow, the pictures are quite nice :)

Lough Ouler is as you can see an attractive heart-shaped corrie lake located on the side of Tonelagee Mountain. I've done some digging and the name 'Ouler' derives from 'Iolar', which is the Irish for eagle, suggesting that in the past eagles were seen here. I also came across the below details of the place, which some of you may find useful:

As the glacier scoured out this corrie, it left a steep 200m high cliff on the north east side. The lake is enclosed on the east side by a series of moraines which allow only a small stream to flow out of the lake to join the Glenmacnass River. There are many wet flushes on the hillside below the lake with mosses, Bog Cottons Eriophorum spp. and Soft Rush. The lakeshore is rocky and sparsely vegetated with Shoreweed and Quillwort. Magnifique endroit plein de calme,une photo limite noir et blanc grâce a une ambiance grise et menaçante,la fine couche de neige forme des contrastes extra avec l'herbe sombres et j'adore le reflet du ciel sombre dans le lac,l'endroit et la photo sont parfaite,bravo.

great winter lanscape quiet pictoresque.
The dark color of the lake contrast to the white snow and is very fascinating.
The clouds add a menacing tone to the lanscape.

Ireland as I've never seen it, and as I will never see it I think ! I love the cold and cloudy atmosphere, with nice details on the clouds. The POV is excellent. Very nice mirror effect on the lake.

Hello Darek,
A superb mood to this wintry scene. The tones are almost verging on the black and white except for the slight hint of blue/purple in the sky. The composition has a pleasing balance to it and exceptional sharpness. Rather you than me out there in that weather :-)

dzieki ze otwierasz przed nami swoje serce :)
Jak juz wiesz ogromnie Ci zazdroszcze tego zdjecia i ze udalo Ci sie tam dotrzec. Osoby ktore moga chciec odwiedzic to miejsce uprzedzam ze trzeba do niego brnac dlugo i gleboko po kostki w blocie. Probowalem dwa razy moze za trzecim mi sie uda. Natomiast chyba na pewno nie uda mi sie nigdy zlapac takiej aury jaka pokazales tutaj. Takie widoki zdarzaja sie w Irlandii raz na kilkadziesiat lat. Nastroj naprawde niesamowity, to musialo byc niesamowite przezycie.
Super fajny POV, bardzo ladna kompozycja, atrakcyjne chmury, doskonale odbicie, to naprawde jedno z moich ulubionych zdjec ale ktos kto nie byl w Wicklow (ktore sa tak strasznie nudne) nie zrozumie dlaczego to zdjecie tak mi sie podoba.
Naprawde powala na kolana, zreszta juz Ci to mowilem.

czesc Darek,
klarownosc tego jeziorka jest po prostu niesamowita! Wreszcie komus udalo sie uchwycic snieg w irlandzkich gorach na co dlugo czekalem, gdyz malo jest tu takich fotek. Ja ostatnio bylem na Connemarze ale tylko widzialem z daleka osniezone szczyty gor i niestety nie bylo mi dane nawet do nich podejsc! Swietna odslona Darku, przemarzles pewnie na kosc ale musze przyznac ze warto aby np. ktos taki jak ja mogl nacieszyc oczy:) bardzo mi sie podoba.

Od kilku godzin patrzę na ten kadr i cały czas odnoszę wrażenie, że prawie wszystko jest tutaj po to tylko, by stanowić oprawę dla tej gładkiej, ciemnej tafli wody o kształcie serca. Nie będę się wymądrzał nad tym kadrem. Jest po prostu wspaniały.

Ta praca zwraca moja uwage swoja oryginalna kolorystyka. Dzieki warunkom, ktore panowaly kiedy robiles to zdjecie wyglada ono zupelnie jak wersja czarno - biala. Piekne jest to zimowe jezioro.

To w Irlandii też jest snieg ?. Moja znajoma stamtąd mówiła mi, że tylko przez trzy dni w roku.

A highly graphic image, nearly a black & white and so more effective and essential. The scenery is of course charming but it's this heart shaped lake which attracts all our attention in a mesmerizing way. The clouds reflected on the water are splendid and even frightful in some way. The lake seems like an aperture into an alien world. This is where photography meets art. Compliments:
