Built in the 1600's, here is the beautiful, dear chiesa della Madonna del Lago (Church of the Madonna of the Lake) in Santo Stefano di Sessanio, before the recent earthquake.

This photo is from a warm September afternoon last year. We heard from friends at La Locanda sul Lago this week that "A santo Stafano di Sessanio č caduta la torre, la chiesa della madonna del lago ed altre case." ... At Santo Stefano di Sessanio the tower has fallen, and the Church of the Madonna of the Lake was also broken."

Such sad losses. Much to rebuild. I hope they start a fund for donations.

Hi Karl!
I hope it will be rebuild soon. Here in my country (Philippines), we are also in the "Ring of Fire" in the Pacific, meaning within an earthquake belt like Japan. Praying to God that it won't happen again...

Hi Karl!
Another beautiful building which looks set in a place of Paradise!
How sad you must feel that these beauties which you witnessed last year, have gone!
Your photo is just great with this light-coloured little churh seen behind the high grasses, right among the fields with the barren hills in the background!
