Photographer's Note
Here is a photo of the recently lost "Torre Medicea", in the beautiful village of Santo Stefano di Sessanio.
The tower, built between the XI and XII century, fell in the recent Abruzzo earthquake.
Our friends at La Locanda sul Lago, an inn and restaurant there, write that their village church was also badly damaged.
The Centri di Servizio per il Volontariato in Abruzzo says at the moment mostly professional services are engaged, but they will keep their site updated for additional volunteering needs as they develop. Also the Red Cross, and other organizations have set up funds to help in the immediate aftermath.
Perhaps also there will be support to rebuild these (temporarily) lost treasures.
I have been saddened by this all week, and was cheered up by Stasa's note on TL reminding me that Italy is not only a land of history, but also one of rebuilding and rebirth.

Hi Karl!
Thanks for sharing again!
It's devastating seeing the Tower destroyed, on the net! The church does not seem to have suffered so much damage!
But it will certainly take a long, long time before all that is built again!
Best regards!
Marie Louise.
