Photographer's Note
ENGLISH: This is the marina in the historical centre of the Isle of Procida. Procida is one of the three islands off the coast of Naples (Ischia and Capri being the other two). It was created by the eruption of four volcanoes, now submerged and dormant in the Bay of Naples.
Like Naples, Procida has had a truly chequered and multicultural history. It was first settled by the Mycenians in the 15th century BC. The Greeks came next, then more Greeks called the Cumans, then the Romans (who turned it into a tourist resort for the rich), then the Byzantines and for a while pillaged and devastated by the Goths, Vandals and Saracens. In the middle ages it fell to to the Normans and became a fiefdom later Angevin Spanish and Bourbon (French) dynasties. In 1860 it became part of the Kingdom of Italy. Is it any wonder that the dialect, the food and the culture are such a magnificent historical melting pot?
As to the island itself, it might seem familiar to the film-buff. The famous Italian movie "Il Postino" and "The Talented Mr Ripley" were both filmed here.

Hello Lisa,
I have to say that I enjoyed both "Il Postino" and "The Talented Mr Ripley" but never realised they were both filmed here. I like this composition with the boats making an interesting and contrasting frame for the pastel colours of the background buildings as well as bringing depth to the scene. Also, the soft light and natural colours. Hope you are enjoying your week.

Ciao Lisa,
There was a wonderful programme on BBC last night tracing the history of Ischia with relation to the Greek Myths.
On seeing this shot, I wish we had visited here as well as Capri, when we stayed in Sorrento.
A delightful pov, with the pastel shaded houses mounting the hilside, like giant steps, fuklk of detail and character.
The f/g boats create immediate interest and infer the close connections with the sea.
A very good use of the vertical format.
My warm regards,
Bev :-)

Lisa,
This is an excellent shot of this seaside town. The vertical format is great adding depth for the scene. The inclusion of the boats in the foreground add points of interest for the shot. The lighting and colors are great and the photo has fine sharpness.

Hi Lisa,
I though it looked vaguely familiar when I looked at the thumbnail - Il Postino is one of my all-time favourite movies: the look on Mario's face when he realises he has constructed his first 'metaforo' is one of the great pieces of cinema. Maybe one day if I can lay my hands on a decent scanner, I will post some of my shots of Pablo Neruda's house in Valparaiso, Chile.
Your photograph is fabulous - with a lovely long lead in to the quite vertical arrangement of the town buildings. I like the way that you have made the most touristy feature (the outdoor tables and restaurant) the least important part of the frame; instead focussing on the aspects of the port and the colours of the town.
Great work, many thanks - you will have me thinking of Mario Ruoppolo all day now (which is clearly a good thing), Iain.

Nicely composed with all the successive layers of interest
You know that I'm not a big fan of over accentuated colors but in the present situation I think they are a bit too faded. Just a bit
have a nice day lisa

Hi Lisa,
Beautiful vertical shot. I guess those buildings are deliberately arranged to offer views to the harbour. Foreground boats are picturesque and the view is full of signs of life.
I think this could be a bit brighter though.

difficult to get an original shot of Naples, but this is one! Love the POV and composition, plus it has a pastel feel to it which brings out the charm of the place. Well taken.

Hi Lisa
if i was here, i think i'd spend about 99% of the day at this location...looks very photogenic.
the bottom boat is a little bit distracting, just a bit. Hope you dont mind me saying that...if you scroll up until the bottom of the frame is at the bottom of the blue and white boat, it looks even better. what do you think? ok, enough of the nitpicking...
you hit the exposure right on, and my favorite part are the clouds..looks like you painted them in with a sweeping brush stroke! love the architecture too, and the tanlged, intertwined way they are placed - a great area to walk around i'm sure. hope to see more views like this from your trip :)
have a great one!

Hi Lisa,
I'm so jealous of you, okay envious. This is one of the location that I would love to visit in Italy, and it's been such a long time ago when I was last there. This photo is fantastic, great light, beautiful weather. I like the vertical format that allow you to include the foreground of boats which adds lot of depth to this image. I like the natural colors, not too much saturation that many tend to do. REally lovely shot and the restaurant is very inviting for me to sit down and enjoy some local food. Yum.

Hi Lisa.
Thought it was about time I had a look in a few galleries, and yours was first cab off the rank.
I've never even been to Naples let alone the islands in the bay, but somehow this one just sums up what I imagine. All those buildings jammed on to the hill side with narrow streets leading up to the church, and the restaurant tables and old boats. I like this kind of slightly under-exposed looking shot, it seems to enhance the light and colour. Very atmospheric and well composed.

Andrew

Coucou Lisa,
Buona settimana.

Ciao Lisa,
wow, I like it very much. I always like very busy frames, busy with plenty of interesting elements as here. It starts with charming colorful boats in the FG and with a great DOF the literal "business" goes further. I like very much the cute small houses, they are so crowded so colorful surprisingly predominantly yellow and pink. The blue sky makes a nice topping.
Beautiful view, I really enjoy it.
