Palombara Sabina - Rome
Center Sabina gathered around Walled castle Savelli, foundation medieval but rebuilt in the sixteenth century, at the foot of Mount Gennaro.
It has just over thirteen thousand inhabitants and is in the province of Rome.
Probably it stands on the site of Cameria (secon¬do another hypothesis Regillum).
In the eighth century, the center is called Palumba or palumbus, name probably derived from the presence of timbered and breeding of pigeons in the area.
So was the domain of the Abbey of Farfa.
In the eleventh century the town was called Palumbaria when it was a fief of the Duke Alberico Longobardo. In 1279 was the Savelli. In 1600 the Savelli family sold the fief to the Borghese who became dukes.
