Photographer's Note

The Elephant, symbol of the city of Catania since 1200, is located in the center of Piazza Duomo. This is a lava-stone statue that dates back to the Roman era, mounted on a more modern structure by Vaccarini from the eighteenth century. Legend goes that this animal became the city symbol because in ancient times pigmy elephants lived in this place, that protected the citys inhabitants by chasing away fierce animals.

P.P. That day the weather was cloudy. The sky is taken from another shot and replaced in Post-Processing.

Hi Matteo

First I thougth it was something with Hanibal - but I quess its the wrong place - A fine angle to watch this artwork - the eye makes it almost alive - thanks for this view and the history behind.
