Photographer's Note

This picture was taken on Lipari island, on a beach that was used under Mussolini in order to extract pumices (pierre ponces, ponice) from the island. The bridge was used to transfer the pumices directly to big boats. Right now, this place is not used any more. This bridge was still very flat in 2005; I went there agin in 2006 and it has been destroyed by stormy weather on the mediterranene sea, finally. Not sure I will see it gain next year....
