Experimenting with lights, a photo from Messina, Sicily

Con esta imagen pongo fin a las fotos de Taormina y, de hecho, fue la última que tomé en esta ciudad. Estábamos sentados en la terraza del hotel, ya hechas las maletas, contemplando el paisaje: al fondo, iluminada y casi perdida, la ciudad de Giardini-Naxos y, en primer plano, la calle-carretera que sube desde el centro de Taormina hasta Castelmola. La imagen muestra cómo crecen las ciudades entre montańas: las casas están pegadas a la carretera que serpentea sin cesar entre la montańa y el mar, y la gente aprovecha los lugares más pequeńos para cualquier cosa: trasteros, parkings...

Quise experimentar con las luches de los coches y motos que subían y bajaban, las farolas urbanas y la luna. Apoyé la cámara en el muro que cerraba la terraza (no tenía trípode) y disparé. Bien, este es el resultado: mi primera foto nocturna de coches en movimiento. Espero que os guste.

With this image I finish the photos of Taormina and, in fact, it was the last one that I took in this city. We were seated in the patio of the hotel, already made the baggage, contemplating the scenery: to the background, illuminated and almost lost, the city of Giardini-Naxos and, in the foreground, the street - road that rises from the center of Taormina up to Castelmola. The shot shows how the cities there grow between mountains: the houses are along to the road that winds incessantly between the mountain and the sea, and the people make use of the smallest places for any purpose: storage places, parking...

I wanted to experiment with lights of the cars and motorbikes that were going up and down, the urban lampposts and the moon. I supported the camera on the railing (I had no tripod) and shot. Well, this is the result: my first night photo of cars in movement. I hope that you like it.

It is maybe the last you took, but surely not the last in quality! ;D
You really didnt have tripod!!!???
Great sharpness then ,the moon and cmouds are superb!

Hi Angel. Good to try something different on this one - I think what makes it interesting is the horseshoe-shaped bend of the road that you included here, which gave you some quite effective "curving" traces of light. The moon nearby to the fluffy cloud makes for another fun detail. Have a nice weekend.

żSeguro que es tu primera nocturna en larga exposición? Pues Ącómo serán las que hagas cuando domines el tema!
Es una maravilla, el efecto dinámico de las luces en movimiento es espectacular, las luces de la ciudad al fondo, la luna y su reflejo en el mar (ese mediterráneo), las nubes iluminadas y las estrellas, todos esos elementos forman un conjunto precioso.
Estar allí, contemplando esta maravilla de vista desde el hotel como despedida de una ciudad, seguro que fue un momento inolvidable.

Vaya, como bien dice Josep, cuando domines mas el tema habrá que poner caritas verdes por duplicado ;-)

Para ser la primera está genial, la escena está bien iluminada y el cielo aporta mucho a la composición, las luces de los coches son muy interesantes, solo veo un poco cortada la carretera en su parte inferior, pero imagino que no estabas como para elegir teniendo en cuenta que no tenias trípode, recuerdo cual fue mi primera fotografia nocturna y con las luces de los coches veladas, fue en b/n y me apoyé en una barandilla, en fin, buen trabajo amigo, sigue así.

This is a most promising shot...
The balance & the colours are amazing...The sigma should be a wonder with such a sharp output...
I would love to know the exif details on this.. I hope I would be able to make such one with
my tredgling conon kit lens.

Hola Angelito... Veo que la foto va gustando, no me extrańa, yo sin embargo tengo mis dudas con la parte superior tan negra. Déjame intentar un WS y luego regreso.
Bueno ya lo he hecho, sigo con la crítica, quiero dejar constancia de que me gusta mucho la idea porque supistes ver como la combinación de unas formas podían crear una imagen sugerente, diria que muy cinematográfica. Enhorabuena

As far as light are concerned, it's quite nice. The blurry movement of the car, the moon, and the coast in the background, very clear and full of different colored light. I was a bit at a loss with the overall subject, however (OK, it's a street) until I read your note, and then it made total sense. It's a picture of departure, of memories already disapearing in the night, and you will soon be leaving with those cars that are passing, anonymous. Together with your note, your picture tells me a story. I don't know if it's the story you wanted to tell, but I like it when we can imagine things from a picture. Very interesting.

je dois dire que je suis assez impressionné par le résultat de cette photo. Je trouve la lumičre trčs bien répartie dans la photo. La courbe donnée par la route et le mouvement des feux de voiture donne une compo dynamique. Bravo, j'aime beaucoup

Bonne idee d'experimenter et ca tombe bien le 350D c'est le roi de la nuit :-))
J'aime bien ton point de vue la courbe de la route est superbe et permet une dynalique interessante avec les phares des voitures comme on le voit sur ta photo, c'est tres agreable a suivre ces courbes de lumiere sinueuses. Pour le reste, la lune au dessus est un plus, par contre je trouve que tu aurais du cadrer tout ca un peu plus bas, car au dessus de la lune c'est un peu vide et en vas il manque un peu de route.

Muy interesente este experimento. La verdad es que es realmente dificil conseguir este efecto pero tu haces un gran trabajo. Me gusta mucho este tipo de capturas.
Y encima sin tripode, perfecto, genial.

Expérience réussie.
il y a l'animation de la rue avce ces lumičres filantes en bas et cette lune dans les nuages en haut magnifique.
tu as trouvé un bon équilibre entre les deux pour la lumičre, et ce n'est pas facile.

Un buen lugar esta curba para captar este ambiente con las lineas rojas de los coches, y muy buna integration del cuielo y la luna.
