Photographer's Note

"June 17, 2007. day 17, Roma and Firenze
Alarm clock rang around 5am in our 6 beds dorm in Roma. Our backpacks were ready because we didn't want to turn on the light and wake up our roommates. So special to walk Roma's streets almost alone. Already almost 30 degrees. Pick an orange in an orange tree along the street and reach the train station: a 15 minutes walk. We're one hour early. The train is already there but we head to that red and yellow multinational to have breakfast into the Termini. Some time to think about the last days we just passed in Roma and about our new destination: Florence. Breakfast was horrible...that orange will be good...kept it for later. The Termini is already filled with travelers and people arriving in Roma to work. Ok, train is leaving, time to go."

"So good traveling by train in Europe...Easy, relaxing, not that cheap anymore, but hey, the panorama is so nice! Controller arrive...yep, I have paid my ticket...this time... We are arriving in Tuscany and it shows!! The landscape is too nice. A man sits behind me:he just smoked a cigarette and smells awful and he sticks his knees in my back...TIme to eat that orange from the orange tree I picked up in Roma. Tastes good, sweet."

"In Florence, quickly, we find our hotel...the Archi Rossi:many many young backpackers but it's very cool and neat...and well placed. It's a 5 minutes walk from the Duomo...But we stopped along the way to have some pastas in a small restaurant. Funny, it looks like we were the only tourists in there. No matter how much people say that pastas are good in Italy, they're underrated...they are so much better than that!!!!
At the minute we arrived at the Duomo, it started to rain...it's starting to become a classic in this trip...At the minute we arrive anywhere, rain starts. Not only some droplets falling, it was a hell of a shower!!! Of course, many many people get out of I don't know where selling umbrellas!! The Duomo is so nice with the marble! Now, my clothes are all wet. Quickly, the sun comes back and we go on with our tour...This place is so beautiful...and so full of tourists!!!!Crazy! We finally succeed getting out of the crowd and find a good point of view over the city. Later on, we eat a pizza and a coke, bill:over 23 euros!! Who wants to pay about 12 Euros for 500 milliliters of coke? Well, I guess we paid the tourist rate..."

part of my travel diary of that day.

Photo taken with a compact camera under strong lit coming from the side. Just a travel picture of a city that I liked a lot. Cropped the sky a bit. Florence is a gorgeous place, but ohhhhh god, so many tourists there during the summer...
