Photographer's Note
Part of the Duomo cathedral complex that includes The Leaning Tower of Pisa, the Camposanto houses frescoes saved from a World War Two fire bomb. The most famous The Triumph of Death (the one here), as well as those depicting Hell and the Last Jusgement are now displayed in this room off the north cloister.

Hi Bev,
This is a really funny picture! I can just imagine the child, being bored to death and the mother in deep thoughts, admiring the frescoe.
Everything in this photo is perfect, the window to the left, the soft colours and "the red detail".
Greetings from Gothenburg
Gunnar

I like this moment that you captured here Bev - I just wish there was less floor and more fresco. The floor takes up almost half the frame without really adding anything. Shooting from a lower position, kneeling down rather than head height, and pointing the camera up would have let you include more of the fresco and less of that empty floor.
Like I said though, the moment is well captured - I like the boredom of the kid contrasting with the rapt attention of the mother.
Cheers,
Ben

Hello Bev,
A good observation, fine light and fine colours. Anyone, even older than ten years. would probably recognize that feeling of having had too much culture at one time. A good title too.
Well done,
Gert

Hello Bev,
I like this!
I like the intense study, the formality of the fenced painting, the regal, red colours... all at a high level!
Then ... the reality of life! The boredom, the tiredness, the complete lack of interst.
Juxtaposing such unexpected opposites is what humour is often about! Great!
Kind regards,
Bev :-)

Hello Bev,
Although I generally have a backlog of critiques for which I must reciprocate, with this image you've submitted we immediately have a common theme — children in art galleries. I love it! The child's reaction is universal, it is timeless!
Although I have long harbored passions for art, science and mathematics, as a child I did more damage to good art in my youth than helped to preserve it. We lived in a rented mansion in London where my father was a diplomat from Ankara to London. The one thing I knew about Leonardo as a child was that he wrote, "The eyes are a window to the soul." In the 17th and 18th century portraits that adorned the mansion there were no souls — no pupils! I poked holes in the eyes of portraits with a bottle opener, in order to create pupils. After my misadventure was discovered (months later), a set of lead soldiers that I had just received for my eighth birthday went into the furnace. About the time the paintings were restored, the furnace had to be replaced. I've made partial amends, writing a pair of books on Leonardo (along with the papers in theoretical physics).
Warm regards,
Bulent

You captured a wonderful stolen moment that is so typical. I think children can soon suffer from a surfeit of culture. Well done

Poor kid, not yet interested in art - I hope he'll develop taste for it later on but this reminds me of a part of my early childhood... I wonder how the shot would have been like, had you stepped a bit on the left but you found an amusing subject and it's great to see that much of the frescoe.
Compliments and best regards,
Cath.

Hi, Bev. I love this.
What a typical kid - and in the perfect spot. The adult engrossed in that incredible frescoe and the child laid out and cutting Z's. Toooo funny. I love the lines and angles in this and I think you have a great balance to give a viewer a good idea of the size of that place. Great job and truly funny. Hope you are having a decent summer!! Best regards,
Shelly

Hello Bev,
You know perhaps that I am working on this kind of subject, and this one is exactly what I am after, when I shoot at Museums of Modern Art. Excellent - Izzet
