Church of Santa Maria di Pietrarossa - Trevi
Among the most famous monuments of the Trevano is undoubtedly the Church of Santa Maria di Pietrarossa.
The name of the church and of the locality is given by a red stone which is now embedded in the second pillar, to the right of whoever enters the church. A very ancient tradition, perhaps dating back to paganism, attributed thaumaturgical powers in the treatment of infertility. The church was built over the remains of an ancient Roman building, perhaps a temple or perhaps ancient baths built near the river Clitunno.
The building retains the original strongly asymmetrical structure, with a rather irregular pattern, in which no measure exactly matches the parallel one, as is often the case in medieval rural churches.
A portico with a wooden roof and tiles surrounds the church on three sides, the interior has a basilica plan with three naves, divided by irregularly shaped pillars, three in the left aisle and four in the right, which support lowered arches, of which the left center is very broad.
Characteristic of the church is the presence of an incredible number of ex voto frescoes, largely depicting the Madonna and Child, there are at least ninety, I propose some of the most significant, not all, of course. Again by Bartolomeo da Miranda is the Madonna del Melagrano: the virgin in the left hand holds the pommel, with the arm and the right hand supports the Child, who keeps his gaze turned towards a long gothic inscription, unfortunately indecipherable.

I say this because those are nice piece of art, and should be preserved.
Good photography, saluti.

Ciao Silvio
This one is in better shape than the previous upload but unfortunately vandals have scratched graffiti on it. Not your fault, and better to get the shot now than have it completely ruined in a decades time. Good colour and sharpness with a soft, diffused light. Tfs!

Hi Silvio,
L'oeuvre d'art est impressionnante. La prise de vue permet de voir les détails de la fresque de la Madonne del Melgrano. La lumičre fait ressortir les couleurs. Bonne journée.

Ciao Silvio,
Again a lovely fresco, a pity that people make the painting broken with scratches
An excellent composition and nice presentation.
Very well done, TFS.
Best regards,
John.
PS: I send you an email personal with a question, maybe tomorrow.

Hello Silvio,
It's a beautiful painting, even though the colours seem to have faded a bit during the hundreds of years. The natural decay has to be accepted, but the vandalization in the lower part is outrageous. It makes me very upset. Some people have no decency at all. You exposed the photo well and used the painted frame as a perfect photo frame.
Best regards,
Gert

Hello Silvio,
Another fine example of a religious work of art. It emerges very nicely from the more worn off parts. Well captured and composed.

Hi Silvio.
Great capture of this fresco with the Vigen and the Child, captured with great symmetry, the colors are preserved quite well, although the barbarism of the people has painted and scratched.
Sharpness and lighting are very well.
Well done. I like it.
You have a good day.
Very best regards.
Luis.

Ciao Caro Silvio,
This is a lovely fresco, very neatly composed within the attractive border and painted with warm coordinating colours. This one has the baby almost looking like a baby!
Your photograph captures the whole with sharp details and we can see with horror the graffiti that has taken place as well as the general degradations of time.
My warm regards,
Bev :-)
