Photographer's Note
I heard from friends in Santo Stefano di Sessanio today, the small, beautiful medieval village west of L'Aquila, the epicenter of the recent terrible earthquake.
They write that "A santo Stafano di Sessanio č caduta la torre, la chiesa della madonna del lago ed altre case." ... A Santo Stefano di Sessanio the tower has fallen, and the Church of the Madonna of the Lake was also broken."
Very sad news. Such treasures lost. The tower is shown here. The church, a dear village church next to this lake I can show tomorrow.
Another view of the village (before the quake) is in this photo.

Hi Karl, yes, its a very tragic moment for the town and the people of L'Aquila. I follow the developments of the search rescue almost the last two days. Nice to see these structures on your photograph and hopefully they would be able to reconstruct those historic treasures. A very sad news though for the victims and relatives.

Hi Karl!
Thank you for this beautiful view of Santo Stafano di Sessanio! Thanks to you, people will know what it used to look like!
Now, will they rebuild alike? The piece of blue sky around the tower seems to bring a little hope!
Thanks for sharing!
Maeie Louise.
