ENGLISH: This is one of the 5 craters on Mt Etna, the Silvestri Crater. Of Italy's 3 active volcanoes (Stromboli, Vesuvius and Etna) Mt Etna is Italy's largest active volcano standing at 3,329 metres in height. It is in a constant state of activity and was in fact smoking when I was there, the most recent large eruption was in late 2008. The soil around Etna is very fertile and in its surrounds you can buy amazing honey and pistacchio nuts. My favourite type of honey was that with pistacchio nuts inside it - the best of both worlds!. The view from Etna is awe-inspiring and the summit can be accessed by cable-car, on-foot or 4 wheel-drive.

ITALIANO: Questo č uno dei 5 crateri sul Monte Etna, il cratere Silvestri. Dei 3 vulcani attivi in Italia(Stromboli, Vesuvio ed Etna) Etna č il piů grande vulcano attivo in piedi a 3.329 metri di altezza. E 'in un costante stato di attivitŕ ed č stato fatto in fumo quando ero lŕ, l'eruzione piů recente si č espressa a fine 2008. Il terreno intorno all'Etna č molto fertile e nei suoi dintorni č possibile acquistare il miele e noci pistacchio. Il mio tipo preferito di miele č stata che con i dadi pistacchio al suo interno - il meglio dei due mondi!. La vista da Etna č maestoso e il vertice č possibile accedere con la funivia, a piedi o 4 ruote motrici.

sai che pur abitando vicino non sono mai salito su uno dei 5 crateri?
E' una lacuna che presto dovrň colmare... nel frattempo mi godo la bella immagine che ci proponi e che ci dŕ giŕ una splendida idea del sito.

Ciao Lisa,la presenza di persone all'interno del cratere e' stata decisive per comprenderne le dimensioni,bellissima composizione prospettica e grande qualita' dei dettagli e dei colori...buona Domenica,anche se per te sara' gia' finita...eehe...Luciano.

very different for you Lisa - a great crater shot. I was thinking that it meant a long steep climb but I see a $ wheel drive mentioned - a fascinating well composed shot.

Hi Lisa,
A good downwards point of view on this rather desolate landscape, the reason for which is quite clear from your useful note. The people dotted about like so many ants give us a good idea of the size of this crater. Did they sell pistachio nuts on their own, I am quite partial to them but don't much enjoy honey ;-)

Foto inedita per gli arditi di T.E. ...ma chi gira il mondo ...routine .
Le foto sono una cartina di tornasole ....rendono nota alla capacita artistica del fotografo , la nota a quello che la foto vuole evidenziare ...in T.E. in salsa italica le critiche e qui l'intuito e la matematica sono stupefacenti ...entri nelle teste e fotografi l'impossibile a fotografare ....

una bella sorpresa vedere l'Etna postata da te.
Hai scelto un bel cratere, anche se come ho detto a Luciano, non č il piů grande.
Il cratere centrale (che fuma sempre), č impressionante. 800 metri di diametro.

Sono sceso tante volte dentro questo che hai postato tu, anche con la neve a scivolare fino in fondo.
Perň poi č stato difficile risalire :))

Anche a te piace il miele con i dadi di pistacchio al suo interno?
Io sono molto goloso di questo.
L'estate scorsa ne ho comprato un barattolo e l'ho mangiato tutto in 2 giorni :))

Hello Lisa,
Excellent use of a wide-angle to show the entire crater. Havign never been to a volcano, I find this picture quite amazing. Not that it is a beautiful place, but it is amazing how vegetation slowly finds its way back to a place where it probably originally flourished. And it is a good place for a bbq, for sure, no danger of setting anything on fire!
Excellent sharpness and good management of the direct light.

nice presentation of the volcano and its surrounding. Light is optimal. Contrast is great between grey soil and blue sky. Nice depth and sharpness. Very well captured shot. Tfs.

Most interesting and informative photo. It may be smoking but no-one looks as though they are preparing to make a dash! In fact the people in the crater and those on the rim seem quite relaxed - and they come in handy giving perspective to the image. I notice a word written with stones - perhaps ALEN?? Cheers, Marlene
