From Cuneo to Naples, a photo from Naples, Campania

ENGLISH: I saw this little Fiat in the streets of Naples. Thanks to Silvio1953, I now know that the registration plate shows that he is from the Province of Cuneo in Italy's North. He was probably holidaying in Italy's Deep South. Alongside the Vespa, for me the Fiat is the quintessential Italian.

ITALIANO: Ho visto questa Fiat graziosissima nelle strade di Napoli. Grazie a Silvio1953, ora so che la sua targa indica che proviene da Cuneo. Probabilmente il suo proprietario si stava godendo una vacanza nel "Profondo Sud". Secondo me, insieme alla Vespa, le Fiat sono la quintessenza dell'italianitŕ.

Hello Dear Lisa,

Isn't this the fabled Cinquecento. My late aunt Adriana D'Amico had an identical model during her last two decades living in Rome. Frequently stolen and recovered, "her baby" as she called it, was finally equipped against car thieves. She purchased a huge chain, and an even large padlock. She draped the chair through the open windows, through the steering column, and locked the padlock on top of the car in the manner of a bow. The next morning she came down from her apartment to find the lock carefully wound into a helical cone. Even the car thieves are artists in Italy!

We are near-neighbors today.

I really love the contrast in tones with the dark street and the bright striking orange, really stunning. Old faithful Fiat something rarely seen on the road nowadays. You have a good eye for capturing details. Well spotted and captured, Good work.

Hello Lisa. Nice job isolating this old Fiat in color. I used to own a small Fiat sports car that looked a whole lot more attractive than this. But it was orange and this reminds me of it. Looks like this old model has a GPS unit on the dash. Good capture Lisa.

Nice little fiat. il Fiat e l'Italiano quintessenza but this view is nostalgic for me too. We had it as the most popular car on our roads (Polish version) for many years, it was called the small one (Maluch). Pleasant photo.
As you probably know from Forum, this time mods were right. What a mistification! And as a last step to cheat me like this.

Aaagh Lisa! this one brings back memories from when we owned a Fiat 500 when we lived in new Guinea in the early 70s! A great 500 portrait but is that a GPS that I can see on the dash board?

non c'č dubbio sul fatto che Vespa e Fiat 500 facciano parte della Quinta Essenza.
Due grandi miti della locomozione italiana a due e quattro ruote.

Mi piace qui l'arancione in contrasto con l'ambiente scuro.

The new model of this Fiat is a star at the Auto Show in Montréal today. The model is nice and not expensive. It has been at least 20 years since Fiat sold cars in Canada.

now isn't this a cutie!
looking at it, i'm intriqued as to how it would look in black and white...it seems to fit that theme as well.
when i look at this car, i imagine noise, pollution and tight spaces!
cute little guy, and i love how it represents the area. if you look closely, it really does contrast against the nice new car infront of it.
it would be even better if you had a photo of Silvio behind the wheel!!

Ciao Lisa, ne ha fatta di strada questa piccola ancora in carreggiata. Napoli č piena di auto provenienti dalle province del nord subito avanti ce n'č una targata Belluno. E poi dicono che a Napoli non riciclano. Ottima desaturazione parziale che qui trovo perfetta.

Hai ragione, cara Lisa, la Fiat 500 č un mito non solo nel mondo, ma soprattutto per noi italiani, specialmente quelli della mia etŕ che ci hanno passato dentro la loro giovinezza ;-)

"L'indémodable" come si dice in Francia (in fatto, non so come si dice in italiano ;)).
Buona idea questa parziale desaturazione, da veramente l'effetto che abbiamo quand vediamo una tale bellezza nelle calle, non vediamo che essa.
Comprare una non sarebbe una buona idea per me quando vedo come č caricata la mia automobile quando parto in vacanza ed ancora piů quando ritorno... Ma sogno di ne provare una. "quintessenza" come dici...
Ne ho visto una (ultimo modello) di colore madreperla. Mamma mia... che era bella.

lovely indeed and so very Italian.
I like the bright eye catching color. It must have been a long trip for a tiny little car like that.

By the way, do you know that in the cold war times, Fiat sold to Poland the licence to manufacture several Fiat models? So in those times Fiat was the most popular car in Poland. Russians of course have soon stolen the technology and produced a very similar car, almost identical to the Polish Fiat and it was the most popular car in Russia.

There were two main models of Fiat produced in Poland:

Fiat 125p ("p" for Polish)
Fiat 126p

Russian version (compare with Polish 125p, of course formally it was all Russian design :) )

Both of them are still visible on Polish roads, although disappearing.

The "Cinquecento" has now a new life given by Fiat engineers - a modern and vivid car. this one is the 1960th++ model - I remember it as a kid ( my friend's father had one)lot's of fun when rooftop opens in hot summewr...

You're right, FIAT cars and in particular FIAT 500s (not the new one, the traditional one!) like this one are the essence of Italian personal means of transportation. I had never seen an orange one and now I really envy its owner! Congratulations for the lovely shot and for the choice to B&W the rest of the picture, I think it was an excellent idea.
