Photographer's Note

The man in the neat suit has not gone down on his knees to ask the lady in red for marriage. He is just preparing his camera for a photo session. I had my camera ready before him and got the first photos.

The woman's dress was probably the latest fashion, but since this was 25 years ago it has gone totally out of fashion. Unless of course it has gone the whole way around and come back into fashion. Such things happen.

This is just my second photo I have posted from Italy, and the first one from Rome. When I was young I spent considerable time in Rome and got to know the city very well. Now I haven't been there since 1991 and no longer recognize where this photo was taken. I am sure that anyone who knows the city well will identify this place easily. I checked my diary from that journey but found no references at all to my photos. I mainly described the churches and museums I visited and the food I ate. I also wrote a lot about the rain that partly spoiled my two week journey around central Italy and complained that everything was so much more expensive than 20 years earlier ;-).

Since I wrote the note Malgo (emka) identified the Nile River god and thus the place. It is (I should have known) the Piazza di Campidoglio. This also enabled me to add the co-ordinates for the Map:view (at least approximately).
Thank you Malgo.

Here is a larger version.

A workshop shows the woman in red a few moments earlier. Both photos were scanned from Kodachrome slides.
