Photographer's Note
Loreto Aprutino is a hill town in the Province of Pescara in the Abruzzo region of Italy. It is located on the Eastern slopes of the Gran Sasso, the heighest peak in the Appennines.
The Roman town on this site was called Laurentum, because of the many bay laurels (laurus) that grew in the area. The modern town grew up around a castle and Benedictine abbey in the 11th century. In the Middle Ages many of the characteristic buildings of the city were built, with one particularly notable example being the parish church of San Pietro Apostolo.
Each spring on the first Monday after Pentecost, the city celebrates the Festa di San Zopito and a parade is held. A child, dressed all in white and wearing a crown of flowers, rides a white ox that is decorated with colored ribbons on its horns and a red mantle bearing an image of San Zopito.
In 1863, after the unification of Italy, the adjective "Aprutino" was added to the name of the town to distinguish it from several other towns in Italy: in Ancona province, in Asti province, in Novara province, and two separate towns in Perugia province.
The production of olive oil is a mainstay of the local economy.
With grateful acknowledgement to Wikipedia.
Apologies for the slight over-exposure but I still think it makes for a nice image.

smashing shot of a constant image of images
good shot this for getting sharp contrast and deep colour..the sky is unfortunately not a great help and could be reduced a bit to heighten the horizon and make more impact of the intricate shapes
as for over exposure...do you use a pp software package or freebie?
cheers

Hi Stephen,
I think it is a nice image too. Some of the buildings on top of the hill are colourful against the sky line. It is hard to imagine that there is room for roads between these buildings, I guess they are more like lanes. The Festa di San Zopito parade sounds great and would be something I would love to attend. Thank you for sharing.
Cheers,
Debbie

Beautiful village, you can see all the colorful houses fronts and rooves. The building at the top left is the only one that's not so nice.

Ciao Stephen
conosco bene questi paesaggi, i miei genitori provengono da questa regione e molti dei miei parenti abitano ancora qui.
Mi fa piacere vederli su questo sito, l'Abruzzo non č molto presente come altre regioni.
Buona domenica
Carlo
