Photographer's Note
Still there are thousands of wooden buildings like this in Riga. This city has recognised the value of medieval centre. Most of it has been reconstructed. The society has recognised the value of some 2500 ArtNoveau and Eccelticism buildings in Riga. Many are renovated, most are in good shape.
But the society still has to understand the value of thousands of the wooden houses along the cobblestone streets. Most of these houses are in bad shape. (I am living in a similar wooden house myself, but my flat is in excellent condition :))

That's a really nice shot. I like the colours and textures. I would probably crop out the drainpipe on the left, but other than that, I like it!

I like this clear picture. Not only it is technically very good, but most important it conveys some kind of atmosphere, it's what I would call a 'natural' shot, nothing is interfering between my eyes and the place shown.
I don't mind the drainpipe.

A beautiful architecture shot Gatis! I really like these returning brown tones and you also captured an interesting facade and a mood of aging. Well done Gatis. I have to visit Riga once, that's for sure!

Thank you for your picture and your explanation. Your photos looks like if everything was frozen... great effect.

Sharp and clear capture, I think the overcast weather may well have been an advantage in this case. Nice, douce colours. From which period are these wooden houses, are they the Riga equivalent of the timber-framed houses of Western Europe?

That's a wonderful shot, Gatis. The lighting is good, everything is very sharp, and I like the composition and the angle you chose to present your subject. The green and brown colors blend really harmoniously. Accompanied by an educational note. Well done!

Thank for your notes. The house becomes self-explanatory. It's a perfect documentation, with sharp details and an even light all over. Generally woodden houses (like in Bergen- Norway) give a feeling of happiness, with a cosy appearance. Here, it gives the impression of a strict and severe building, that could also have been built with stone. It's a new vision for me. Hope people will be able to maintain it.

Your note is instructive. This wooden house is beautiful. I hope that these houses will be preserved and that people living there will understand that this is a very valuable architecture.

Dear Gatis,
Such a beautiful picture. I wouldn't change a thing! The wires and drain pipe add realism. Can we see more of this type of picture from you, please?
Regards,
Tony Eden
