Golden Hour at Marsaxlokk, a photo from Malta, South

Photographer's Note

This time i'm sharing with you a much more classic pose, a postcard style shot if you will from Marsaxlokk.

As i've stated before, we were down here at the harbour very early in the morning, and we made it for the golden hour, which is what you see here.

These boats and their reflections are just too good to pass up, even if you're not a fan of such subjects. I loved it here in Marsaxlokk, wish I could go back again today!

Hi neighbor,
Spectacular boats and fine reflections, plus a well placed buoy. The superb light definitely means a lot here. I also like the slightly blurred line of buildings along the quay.
If I remember correctly (it was 18 years ago) I spent maybe an hour or two in Marsaxlokk, then walked along the coast across a hill to the next village, where I caught a bus back to Valletta. I didn't really find anything that would ever want me to go back here.

I like a lot this kind of portuary scene . great ingredients here , as the typical colorful boats , the reflection , the light . The composition is excellent , with the little buoy that gives the final touch of balance .

Hello Craig,
The low sidelight is really beautiful here and adds such a warm hue to the view. The colourful boats are most attractive and are wonderfully reflected in the calm water. Good composition with no sky and just the row of houses in the background.

Hello Craig,
This is really a beautiful shot from a low point of view close to the water surface.
The colours of the small boats are well reflected in the water of the harbor.
A good composition with the buoy placed in the open space at the left.
I remember that when I was in Marsaxlokk I was disappointed that it wasn't as beautiful as on the pictures I had seen before. I think it was the only place in Malta where I felt disappointed.

Hello Craig,

This is a really good representation of what you would expect to see at the harbour. I love how you have been able to photograph the scene with the sun lighting up the colourful prow and casting amazing reflections onto the water.
It is a very fine composition.

I remember when we were there, and that must be over 10 years ago, a boat full of refugees from North Africa, had just arrived in the harbour and the people had all been taken into custody. This refugee crisis isn't as new as one might imagine!

Hello Craig,
I like the subject, and your composition. Having one boat a bit more in front in really nice. We get a complete and detailed reflection, and the small buoy on the left side is also a nice detail. Of course the golden lighting is great, and so is the softly-blurred architecture in the background.

Hi Craig,

Very nice picture, beautiful boats in the golden light, nicely position on the diagonal, golden reflections and nice buildings with balconies on the far background. I also like Marsaxlokk, lovely bay, but in other place there were also these luzzu boats. I enjoyed my ten days in Malta very much but I am not sure that I would like to come back there again. There are so many marvelous places in the world to see.
I have read you complain about the changes after uploading. I haven't observedanything like that. Maybe Gert is right that it happens with small pictures? I like to post and to see bigger images - on my screen 1600 pixels looks great, but it can be too big for smaller screens. Maybe 1200 is optimal. Some people still post big ones. it has no senses at all, we do not see composition, must scroll up and down and left right. Often I simple do not look at it.

Hi Craig,
beautiful picture. More classic but still quite an original version with more focus on the water with reflections than on the houses. I like very much the crispy sharp boats with more dreamy row of houses further in the distance. Perfectly composed with even this little buoy in the water making a strong point here.

Low angle on this one is perfect. Sun shines brightly on the left side giving brilliant result and good contrast to the shady side. I like the diagonal made by the two luzzus.

And a beautiful postcard especially the angle of the lighting and the colors. I like the design of those boats but I don't think they are good for going to the ocean. Good pov and crisp details. Well done, tfs.

A photo that Isa or Gigi would be proud of. I love the slight under-exposure, the rich colours and warm golden light. The reflections are of course the crowning glory. Excellent tight framing too, to allow us to concentrate on the characteristic old boat.

Well, I am a fan subject like this - who can resist such a colourful and well balanced scene like this. A well composed shot with absolutely superb colours and nice effect of the reflections. I like the inclusion of the buoy and the fact that the three boats are painted in the same colours. Lovely shot:)
