Photographer's Note

The majestic five-mast tall ship was anchored in the bay of Kotor, Montenegro. It is one of three upscale sailing ships belonging to the Star Clipper Line founded in 1984, and, according the company's site, a fourth ship will be added to the fleet in 2017. In the last few years I've seen one or another of the Royal Clipper ships sailing off the coast of Santa Lucia, or docked in Barbados or Venice. I shot the photo from the deck of of the Crystal Serenity, belonging to Crystal Cruises. See "Symphony Visiting Paradise".

My prolific photographer friend, Chris Jules, has been treating us to scenes from the Dalmatian Coast, and most recently from Kotor in Montenegro. I was inspired by one of his photos "Kotor Fjord" to post this scene. With exceptionally deep waters and a shoreline rising almost vertically from the sea, the bay has all the hallmarks of fjord carved out by receding ice sheets — following the last Ice Age). It is evocative of the fjords of Norway and Chile, but it is the southernmost fjord in the Northern Hemisphere, in this case, in the Mediterranean. Thank you Chris.
