Island of Saba shot from a 747 of KLM still climbing from St. Maarten on the route to Curacao. Airport of Saba, visible on the left, has the shortest commercial runway in the world, with the length of just 400 metres.

No doubt events of the recent week influenced on the choice of title. Mount Scenery is a potentially active volcano, the latest eruption was around the year 1640. Its lava dome forms the summit of the Saba island. At an elevation of 877 m, it is the highest point in the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
Just 150 km southeast of Saba, on the island of Montserrat, previously dormant Soufričre Hills volcano became active in 1995. Its eruptions have rendered more than half of Montserrat uninhabitable and destroyed capital city, Plymouth, completely.

I like aerial shots :) and this one looks just great!
the Island looks rather lonely in the sea... but this is only an illusive impression :) I see boats around...

Hi Kari, a very topical photo as you say. Usually I find aerial photos pretty humdrum and boring. But this one isn't. It is of a very high quality; is sharp and the colour rendering is exceptional. Nice aerial picture, you had a good window seat hre with the clear sky and the blue sea! But this one seems to be a very quiet volcano compared to the Icelandic one.
